The Memorial Gates is a war memorial found at Constitution Hill, at the western end of Green Park, near a collection of other war memorials located at the SE Corner of Hyde Park.
This monument, also referred to as the Commonwealth Memorial Gates, is dedicated to the five million from Africa, the Caribbean and the Indian Sub-Continent, who joined the armed forces of the British Empire during the first and second World Wars of the 20th century.
The Memorial Gates were designed by Liam O'Connor and unveiled by Queen Elizabeth in 2002. The monument is of a classic design, featuring four pillars made of Portland Stone. The names of the Commonwealth nations, which served alongside Britain, are carved into their sides. Atop the pillars are bronze urns.
The Memorial Gates are a nice tribute and addition to the collection of war monuments that can be found in this area of the city.
