My husband and I went here for a late night dinner and drinks. It was bustling and very busy - and the food was fresh and tasty and the wine was great too.

Always surprises me that a lot of the restaurants around Smithfield don't serve steaks. This one doesn't, but it does have a fine selection of pies to try out. I actually had calves livers in onion gravy which were very nice.

One course for 2 with a glass of wine and a pint of Guiness - £39

Good value

I came here with my family for a late lunch on (American) Thanksgiving after reading good reviews about it on a local pub website. We walked from the Museum of London, which took about 7 minutes at a slow pace, and it's about a 5 minute walk or less to the Barbican tube station. The pub was fairly quiet at this particular time of day and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and the food was AMAZING! We had three different kinds of pies between us (there are about 12 on the menu in total) and all of them were delicious. Almost everything is priced under 10GBP, so very reasonable. As another reviewer stated we were the only tourists in the place, and the pub even has free WiFi which was a bonus! Will definitely be going back the next time I'm in London.

Our friend, a London taxi driver, took us to this great pub on the square by the Smithfield market. Same square where William Wallace (Braveheart) was executed, because the market's butchers had the skills needed to draw and quarter him!

Our group was the only tourists in this packed pub. The waitress was quick. The food was outstanding: fresh and filling. The beer choices on tap were also great.

Well worth a detour, and the neighborhood has some sightseeing highlights as well!
