“Used to be a great pub, but improving again”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2012

This is my local pub, it used to have a really good atmosphere as a 'drinking' pub rather than an 'eating' pub, staff were great. A couple of years ago, the management changed and major refurbishment was completed to extend the dining room and upgrade the garden. Since then, things went downhill, the service is hit and miss, food is ok, but overpriced and the wine list is poor and grossly overpriced (a Youngs trait). That said in the last couple of months things have started to get better, food is improving and the service is certainly better than it was. It has a huge back garden which can get a bit rowdy in the summer, but in general is a nice place to have a beer on a summer afternoon - kids are made very welcome. They are making an effort, worth another try.

“A bit hit and miss.....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2012 via mobile

Ate here with friends on a Sunday lunch time. As it was a bank holiday the place was pretty busy so I expected the service to be slow. Surprisingly our meals came out quite briskly. Unfortunately The meals themselves were a bit hit and miss. The burger I had was really very good but it had been put inside a bun made entirely of dust which disintegrated as soon as you picked it up. My wife's chicken burger was in a lovely soft flour roll, why use the dust rolls? A friend had the ribs which were very good but served with bought in coleslaw and not a jot of salad on any of the plates, not even a garnish. There was some greenery in the burgers but that was it. So the food was good in places (the meat) but lacking in others (salad and bread..). Food is priced about right but drinks here are a little pricey. I'd forgive them that if they had a better selection. Oh and don't even think about being able to get a decent non alcoholic drink, it's coke or lemonade, that's it. No fentimans or elderflower presse here which is a surprise given the drinks prices. All that said it is a very nice place to spend some time and when the sun is shining I'd imagine the beer garden is fantastic. If they sorted the food and drink out (quality, choice and price) this could be a fantastic pub but as it stands at the moment I'd say it's pretty average.

“Slow service to get a flat beer”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 29, 2012

I'm a local and been here a few times for drinks. Like the other comments made its not the cheapest pub. The beer is flat! The food is average but over priced. The beer garden is nice in the summer - but useless with flat beer! Service is painfully slow and you'll be waiting at the bar for ages. Did I mention flat beer??

“Very good quality pub food with big garden”

Delicious Sunday lunch, sat outside in the extensive (for London) garden. Friendly, attentive staff. Best to book.
