Description: The Rotunda ethos isn't complicated - great food and a great atmosphere. While our guests go some of the way in ensuring the latter, our canal-side location means we provide the perfect environment in which to relax and enjoy yourself over a hearty meal and a healthy dose of one of our many wines. While here, you'll browse a menu that changes daily and features mouth-watering meat cuts from our own farm in Northumberland.Rotunda - old fashioned about food.

We chose to book our annual friends Christmas get-together at the Rotunda as we were looking for a venue with a private dining facility. From the initial enquiry to the meal day everything was fantastic. Velia and Rebecca who dealt with our booking were always quick to respond to our requests and nothing was too much trouble. The chef altered a set menu to suit the taste of our (very fussy) group and everyone stated how lovely the food was on the evening.

The staff serving on the evening were very attentive and friendly and helped to make the experience a very relaxing one. The private dining room leads out to a gorgeous snug area on the decking by the river - all made cosy with heat lamps and throws/blankets provided for the outdoor seating (this kept the smokers happy!).

Would definitely recommend and book here again.

Our company Christmas lunch was to Rotunda last year and the whole experience was fantastic. The waiting staff could not have done more for us. We had the private dining room at the back and were welcomed with our (pre-booked) champagne out by the canal and settled into the snug area while looking at the menu. The food was excellent and the service was all very professional - being around but not over intrusive. Few things could have been improved like only supplying port in glasses and not by the bottle (there were 11 of us) and the strange Christmas menu choice - everyone had to have the same choice, so we chose the a la carte, but the food we had was all excellent, would thoroughly recommend the place.

The Rotunda restaurant is a great place, next to the canal, with a nice bar, pleasant staff, good atmosphere. The downside is the food itself, which was really not great. I had the set "winter pie", which shouldn't be too hard to get ok, but I've had better versions of pie and mash in regular london pubs for half the price. Two friends had fishcakes, which again they said were... oookaaaaay. So my feeling is, good place for a drink, not good for a meal.

Thank you taking the time to give us feedback on your recent visit to Rotunda. I was sorry to hear you the dishes you had from our bar menu didn’t quite hit the mark on this occasion, as our winter pies have been a real favourite since launching them a couple of months ago, and the fishcakes have just come back on the menu due to their previous popularity.

As well as our bar menu, we also have a full a la carte menu available in both the bar and restaurant, and all our menus feature a number of dishes using the beef and lamb that is sourced from our own farm, so I do hope you will give Rotunda another chance when dining and try some of our other options in the hope next time we can absolutely get it right for you. Just so you know we have since then conducted tastings on these particular dishes to ensure they offer the quality we would like our customers to associate with us.

Returned to this restaurant for the 4th New Year's Evening in a row as it is enjoyable to eat here after the New Year concert. Food is ok but not memorable (I can never recall what I have eaten before here apart from a superb bread and butter pudding in 2009 and the soup this visit). Set meal has a reasonable choice but if you don't eat meat this is greatly restricted. Vegetarian chooses are uninteresting - salmon was tasty but nothing special and came with some rather uninteresting potatoes whereas chips would have been better - we shared out the ones that came with the steaks. Fish choice overpriced in comparison to the steak which some of the party had - which was the best they had ever eaten! Starter of mushroom soup was exceptional and hard to copy at home. As a party of 4 we were seated in the back part of the restaurant and this always feels subterranean and reminds me of a broom cupboard - particularly when it is dark outside. Despite it being the 31st of December the outside lights were turned of at 10ish. Three courses were £39.95 with free glass of prosecco, two courses were £32.95 without prosecco. Last 2 years the deserts have been very disappointing so a I didn't have one this year! Staff are as attentive as you would expect in London and polite and quick to serve. Will we be here on New Year's evening?

This was our third visit to the Rotunda restaurant on New Year's eve and it was no disappointment. Our children decided to join us this year so we had had to add another two people to our original reservation for three on the day, and our request was very pleasantly dealt with as if it were no trouble at all. The set three-course menu included a glass of prosecco and I thought was good value for the quality of food. There were several choices for each course, most of which were chosen by one member of our party or another. There was bread on the table and more was brought on request. Chestnut and mushroom soup was smooth and rich, the beetroot came with a tangy dressing and cheese and the belly pork pate was tasty (although there was barely enough toast as usual). Mains included the four-hour cooked lamb - delicious - steak medium came French-style medium rather than English, salmon and pasta, and I thought quantities were a bit better than last year when portions were small. After desserts (mostly chocolate sponge with salted caramel ice-cream) we were sated. Service was prompt and pleasant, despite the nearly full restaurant. Everyone wished us a Happy New Year, and this was certainly a good start.
