“Gone Downhill a Bit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2013

I used to live in London and I went to Maze a few times. I returned for a visit and was a bit disappointed. The food was okay. It looked nice, but the taste just wasn't there and the service was awful. We had the set menu with Bellinis. The drinks were great, the watercress soup so salty it was painful to eat. The bread was delicious. The mackerel was competently done. The quail was quite nice and and the crackling pork fantastic. Desserts were blah: one was a fancy mallomar and the other a quince bakewell. Both would have been better purchased from Sainsbury's. The service was horrendous though. We waited forever for our food, had problems flagging down servers and had to ask for the bill three times.

“Great value set menu and wine flight”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2013

My Son and I took a trip down to London on a wet Monday afternoon in January to celebrate his 22nd birthday. We had cocktails in Claridge’s before heading to Maze where we opted for (after another Jelly Baby cocktail!) the 4 course set menu at £25 with wine flight £20. Some great options on the menu and I love the fact that you can mix and match the number of savoury and sweet dishes. Restaurant was fairly quiet when we arrived early but was filling up as we were leaving. Good service and overall very good value for money.

“Wonderful Anniversary Dinner!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2013

They could not have been nicer to us at Maze. Even though the portions seem small, you will leave this place feeling like you can't eat another bite. The Beef Tataki is incredible...my husband was jealous after having a bite. For dessert get the Banana Parfait. For our anniversary, they brought us a special chocolate dessert and even took us into the kitchen after dinner for a private tour. It is expensive, but we would definitely go back the next time we are in London. The staff was very attentive and pleasant and more than helpful in explaining the menu. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to see Gordon Ramsay himself!

“Good value on a toptable deal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2013

We booked knowing we would be in London on a Tuesday evening we booked a deal through top table at £25.00 a head for a four course special deal with a Bellini cocktail. The extras were £4.00 for the bottle of water at £2.00 a head cover charge, the total cost including tip and drinks ended up being about £85.00 which I think is very reasonable considering the status of this restaurant.

The portions were small but well executed acting a bit like tasters of the flavours of the food and skills of the chef. There was a range of choices and you could have four savoury dishes or four deserts if you wished, they recommend three savoury and one desert dish.

The service was excellent and the sommelier was very approachable and seemed to enjoy discussing the wines with us (despite the fact we were looking at the ‘cheap’ end. The staff were very helpful especially considering we were dining with a baby in a pushchair!

The ambiance was ok nothing to impressive or unusual but quite crisp and modern.
