I keep trying various Boisdale jazz clubs and while Bishposgate clearly doesn't have the large concert room and great acoustic of Canary Wharf, it is still one of the best in London, with a possibility of having a diner during the show. The menu is same as at other venues - do not miss poached salmon nor the plate of smoked ones: direct Scottish supply chain makes them absolutely fresh and delicious. Very nice wine list with a lot of options of both European and new world wines.
Obviously a booking is necessary, especially if there are some well known jazz players, which happens pretty often.

Fantastic steak, lovely service, great menu choices, and top notch drinks. This is a brilliant place for client meetings. However the mistake was made of coming for dinner as a couple. The atmosphere was not right for that (the testosterone was flying about), and that is more of a mistake on our part really! So the 4 stars is an average score: 5 stars for business meetings/boys night out, 3 stars for a couples dinner!

I was taken out for a meal here.

It was very quiet at a lunch time sitting and it is a bit dark in the restaurant.

However, the food was very good and well cooked. The staff were very friendly and attentive so we all had a very enjoyable lunch. I had a starter of salmon and a main of fillet steak, both of which were excellently prepared. The home made chips were also very nice.

It was also a little bit difficult to find as it is up an alley.

All in all, a very good lunch.

Went there recently for an evening meal and took advantage of the offer they had for 2 courses for £17.50. Service was good and the ambience was really nice. They had live jazz pianist which was great and the decor was old school but date fully done. The food was good quality and the home made chips were lovely. Overall, very nice evening with good food.

Once you find t,his place tucked ap a wee alley( you'll not notice it walking by) you'll not be disappointed. The helpful staff will take your coats and lead you away from the slightly dated and dingy pub upstairs to their basement restaurant which is tastefully done in gentleman's colours with well thought out paintings etc on the walls.... The food however is the biggest draw... Lovely dived scallops, a very fresh and tasty trio of smoked salmon, and some gorgeous well hung and aged scottish steaks that were cooked to perfection. Add an extensive wine list and a cheese board with a fantastic selection and you have all the trappings of a great evening. James the duty manager and Sharona our waitress looked after us superbly last Friday and we would certainly make the trip again. 5 stars for you guys..... Ranald would be proud of you all.
