“Pathetic Food and Service!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2014

We ate at this Restaurant recently and I would never ever recommend any one to dine at this place. The food was sub standard - the spring rolls were half done and thick Shanghai Noodles were tasteless. Only good thing was the Hot and Sour Soup.

The staff was rude and uninterested. After paying the bill by cash, they made us wait for a good 20 mins to return the change and the receipt to us. Every time we reminded the staff, they would either simply walk past you, or say "5 mins", making us wait for nearly 20 mins! Eventually, after wasting our time for so long, we simply got up and left.

You are much better off staying away from this place.

“Good Chinese Food, Average Service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2014

I've been here twice, once with a friend and more recently with my parents. My parents wanted to try this place out as we've walked past it a few times when finding new places to dine in Chinatown.

The first time I came here, the food and service was average and the staff although courteous, they will walk past you, if you can't get their attention and they won't ask if you're okay, or if you need anything.

Second time around was pretty much the same, we ordered some Dim Sum and some starters and a few rice additions, but with most Chinese restaurants, if you order two of the same dish, they put the two portions together on one big plate, which for myself on a personal level, I'm not really too keen on.

We ordered food and drinks and these were served up in a reasonable time. The food was good, and the quality is good as well. The waiters do not ask if you're okay, or if you need anything else, they sometimes actually ignore you if you don't holler at them for service, or if you need anything, which is unhelpful. They're not rude to customers, but it will take several attempts ot get their attention.

The food for the three of us including drinks was a bit more than we thought it would be, some of the food is overly priced for what it is, and that's disappointing. I did see that my Mum ordered Squid rings and there were 6 on the plate and that was just under £3, so I feel that it is overly priced, compared to other places. If you don't mind a simple quick meal and are on a budget, get an actual meal which is probably a good idea, if you fancy Dim Sum, and you're on a budget, choose wisely, because the portions aren't always as big as they should be and that can be disapponting if you're expecting more.

Good food, average service. It's a good restaurant, but it's not the best.

“Reasonable food, but pricey”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014 via mobile

We we're took right to the top of the restaurant out of the way! The food was ok, nothing to shout about, and was quite expensive. Not a bad experience, but not the best by a long shot.

“Oh my giddy aunt - just awful”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2014 via mobile

We can't get across to you just how bad this experience was.

There are hundreds of Chinese restaurants out there - choose one of them. Our advice is NOT to eat here unless you want:

Surly service
Cold food
Dirty tablecloth
Dirty staff
Uninterested waiters
Cold plates
Cold restaurant
Slimy pak choi
Glasses that felt like Braille
Pancake steamer with fingerprints of someone else's food

Why didn't we leave you ask? We have asked ourselves the same question. We started to laugh at how funny it was getting. The waiters would throw the plates on the tables. We mean it. They would have their back turned and just plonk the plates down as they walked away. The only time we got any response from anyone was when a hearty and sarcastic "thank you" was greeted with suspicion and an angry "what do you say?"

To cap off an interesting experience they add the 12.5% service charge too. We didn't pay ours!!!!

Take a look at the food standard agency website. The Golden Pagoda scores a whopping 0!!!! That was a first for us. We've never eaten at a zero rated restaurant before

“Don't bother”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014 via mobile

We'd been here before for dim sum so decided to stop in for a quick meal on our way home one evening. The staff were either rude or ignored us completely. The food was lacklustre - the vegetable dish was mainly bean sprouts with a few bit of carrot and corn, and the rice was a gluggy mess that was closer to porridge. The bill came to £50 for a starter, two mains, rice and a pot of tea, which definitely didn't feel like value for money. There are plenty of other Chinese restaurants in London so we won't be back.
