The room was clean but nothing else was to my liking, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The single room was not big enough to swing a cat and the noise from the creaking floors was really annoying, so I did not sleep much. You could also hear other sounds from the adjoining rooms. The shower takes approximately 5mins after turning on to get hot water, so I had a cold and hot shower the first time. There is tea in the room but no coffee, and as I drink coffee I had to go without a hot drink. The free bottle of water on the window sill was warm yuk!! The gym is a 3min walk from the hotel and you will need a padlock for the changing room. Didn't eat in the hotel so cannot comment on that, breakfast was served from 7.30am, which was too late for me so I had to buy breakfast elsewhere.

All I can say is how can they do it for the money. The rooms are very clean, of a reasonable size (larger than some 4 star hotels in London) with good food and friendly staff.

I was told there has been a bigger emphasis on local produce and as a regular business traveller to London, I can confirm the Old Ship offered a better breakfast than the big chains charging twice the price. Really good sausages (how often can you say that in hotels) and what looked like home cooked scones and muffins.

Of course, they had me at the offer of a free beer at registration.

I stayed here overnight to attend an evening course held locally. What a great little place....we entered via the passage way from main street which was fresh and clean (see previous review) and the pub was lovely, well decorated and cosy. The staff took our bags despite being 11 am so I was free to explore London in comfort...was given complementary drinks when returning to check in and enjoyed a lovely vibe whilst waiting...room 5 was compact but extreamly well designed to offer everything you needed for a breif tip, very good bathroom, but just in need of a minor touchup (general wear and tear)
Would have eaten in the evening but their was a party, which was quite noisy however noise didn't carry to the rooms and buisness is buisness in these economic times.
There were some hitches but it was how these were addressed and resolved by extreamly good staff which made the difference ...wish there were more urban inns because I would always hope to find such good places to stay at their reasonable price

We went for lunch before going to the panto at the Hackney Empire on the 27th December. So some of the negative aspects of this review may be something to do with the date. We entered from their own alley leading from the main street. It need a swill down and my son almost refused to go any further due to the smell. Once inside, however, it was very pleasant, nice decor, clean and smell free. Our waitress was very nice, very eager to help though didn't always understand what we were saying. It was her first day and although she made some mistakes she was obviously trying hard and it didn't spoil the meal. In fact when my son spilt his drink she brought him a new one free of charge. I was disappointed that although they advertise themselves as child friendly they did not have a children's menu. Upon being asked she did say they would do any meal as a child's size. I overheard the waiter telling another couple (there were three tables having lunch) that there was no lunch menu and that only the Christmas menu was available. This may have explained the lack of children's menu and limited choice (one veggie option), but with our waitresses lack of English we didn't enquire further. My pasta dish was pleasant, however hubbie's and son's burger and chips was disappointing. The fries were nice, but the burger was very solid and dry. My son was given an adult's portion, but we were only charged for a child's portion. I would try it again, out of the Christmas holidays, but only if the alleyway entrance had been swilled.

I usually stay in fairly faceless, 'corporate' hotels, whilst always trying to seek out a good, local and reasonbly priced restaurant. Leaving it late to book, my options were very limited so a search of the area showed the Old Ship as an interesting option and I was very pleased I did as my stay was great, from start to finish. The street is extremely busy but the pub is hidden down an alleyway, so feels removed from the immediate hustle and bustle. A slight delay in checking in was forgotten with a welcoming free drink, giving me time to check out the menu of the small, restaurant, which is attached to the, equally cosy , bar area. The room was clean and comfortable, with a good strong shower and plenty of space (I was in a larger family room). This isnt a smart hotel, it's a pub, so your expectations need to be realistic eg it has a twisty staircase which some less able guests could find challenging.
There are several things which seem to differentiate the Old Ship from its competitors though i.e. the staff - superb service throughout my stay, the rooms - clean and comfortable, the food - I had a seriously impressive steak and breakfast offers a good choice, and the price.....this has got to offer some of the best value, price to quality ratio, in the capital.
I would recommend this pub as somewhere to stay if you're looking for a comfortable place to stay, with no pretensions, which offers great food and first class service. It's punching well above its weight.

All in all a lovely stay.

Excellent welcome (including complementary drink). Room was lovely, not particularly big but well appointed and nicely decorated. Staff were very attentive throughout my stay and very friendly too. The whole place had a really nice, friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

The evening meal was excellent too, a good variety, very well finished and tasty. Breakfast was great too. Everything that should have been hot was hot and there was a good selection.

I will definitely stay again when I am next in the area.

The rooms are clean, beds are soft, showers are wonderful and you have a TV. What more could you want? The best part about though is the classiness. You got a free drink upon check-in and the staff was very very helpful. I had to catch a flight early in the morning before the underground started to run and they called me a cab and walked me over to the office and where happy to do so. Couldn't have picked a better place to stay.
