Description: Bàcaro is derived from the Latin word 'Bacchus' which is the God of wine and intoxication and is the Venetian word to describe a humble unpretentious tavern or trattoria serving simple food and good, young local wines. They are typically a great meeting place for locals and friends and represent a wonderfully relaxed, convivial and simple environment where walking through the threshold leads you to live a completely authentic Italian experience. The menu is inspired by original Venetian and regional Italian recipes. There is no compromise in the dishes, and the unusual ingredients on the menu are not often seen outside their traditional region in Italy.Cichèto is derived from the Latin word 'ciccus' meaning 'littlest quantity', a delicious, mouth-watering titbit appetizers. A simple menu of cichèti is offered along with the traditional 'ombra', a small tumbler of wine drunk at the shadow of San Marco's Campanile (tower bell) from the most exclusive wine list. The 'aperitivo' takes place following the Venetian tradition to drink an 'ombra' or a Prosecco Spritz with Campari or Aperol accompanied by cichèti.

I work in the Barbican area and back in mid -April was looking for Lunch outside the Pubs and Chain eateries around the tune station and found Venzia Bacaro. Quite unassuming inside , quite busy and however it was to prove a great local restaurant find. Great sized portions - I had a starter - Caprese salad (cherry tomatoes, mozzarella & basil ) and Penne with ragu. The food was great quality and I had a 'cheeky' glass of red wine which was delightful ( Barbera, Amonte Volpi Piemonte ) They also had a Primitovo from Puglia . The real surprise was the value realised when I received the bill. Definitely a keeper and I will return!

Spent a leisurely and pleasant lunch here. The pasta was tasty the dessert gorgeous and the house wine very nice. Our only let down was the parmigiana, which my friend and I both ordered as it is a favourite of ours. Somewhere in the mass of melted cheese was the thinnest sliver of aubergine. This starter cost £6.95, and to be honest it was a disgrace and spoilt an otherwise lovely lunch.

I’m Italian and I was working in London then. I found this place near the working place so I booked for 2. The meals really reflects Italian culture and are so good. Highly recommended. Pizzas are also very good.

Popped in as a party of 6 before seeing a play at The Barbican. Nicely busy but not crowded which created a relaxed atmosphere. The pizzas were tremendously value at £8:50 and we all had either the Rialto or San Marco. Lovely, piping hot and very filling. The service was very friendly.
For such a small bar/ restaurant it just seemed a little bit arbitrary that the Happy Hour drinks menu is only available in the bar, not the restaurant. Literally centimetres away!
