Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 2 nights in October 2013. Given a triple room, as per booking, which was spacious and clean and had a freeview tv. The room had a sink which was handy. Hotel has shared bathrooms on each floor which were fit for purpose and clean. The continental breakfast was nice and features toast, cereal and fruit juice. The best things about this hotel are the location and the price. Affordable and central, a great base for a few nights in London. Would stay here again

As you can see from my previous reviews I am a tried and tested resident to the many B&Bs that London has to offer and I have stayed on many across the Tavistock Road area. This is an area that is inundated with B&Bs so you are literately spoilt for choice here. As it transpired I was in London for Business so I found myself in the Albany Hotel. For a B&B its at the bottom end of the market – don’t get me wrong its not luxury but its OK. I asked the innkeeper to ensure that I wasn’t in the side of the road (as the penetrating glare of the street lamp destroys much of your retinas when you try to sleep) she was very obliging and said that all single rooms are on that side of the building but that she would move me to the top of the buildings so that I was way away from the glare of the light. I need not have worried as the curtains were quite think and blocked any light out. However the inch high gap at the bottom of the door and th fact that I was not given a spare pillow or towel to block out the light was a bit problematic. Iam not going to use my own clothes to block this off. To compound this was the fact that every door on that floor had the same size of gap meant that was exposed to everybody sleep talking in the night …almost as if there were in my own room!! This wasn’t too much of an issue except for the fact that my bed had a 30 degree tilt to it which kind of ensured that I was rolled over the door side every time I tried to drift off. However this was all nothing compared to the most egregious of all issues – there was no water in the shower …IAM A MAN NOT ANIMAL !! After spending the night rolling towards to sounds of the other residents as they murmured in their sleep I would have accepted anything but the scalding hot dribble of kettle like water that spurted out of the shower head in a spasmodic fashion was not acceptable.

Lived for three nights, you feel like in a prison or in isolation. no ventilation, no fresh air, no lounge to sit in. Smell like an old dump place. Carpets are dirty. Shower was horrible, mostly cold water which gets really hot at one point. Lights in the room really low quality even you find difficulty to study. Beds ,you feel like not regularly cleaned and dirty colour. Smelly towel in the room
No ensuite, you find a shared bath that you need to go through steps
My mistake I booked it.
It is house where a dog lives as well and you can smell as soon as you enter.
Better to spend little bit more to find better place.
Never recommend to any one unless you are extremely desperate

Room Tip: Look for quality names

This small hotel is easy walking distance from Kings X, St Pancras & Euston but on a relatively quiet street in Bloomsbury. Comfortable and totally welcoming with clean rooms, generous breakfast and really helpful hosts - all that for a reasonable tariff. No restrictions or curfew and very local to some nice cafes & bars as well as access some of the major tourist sites & transport systems. Shared bathroom/shower room is not unusual for hotels of this type, and honestly was no great problems - if you want private facilities, pay more & go elsewhere, don't moan about it!! We would happily book to stay here again, if only to see the unique dining room again!

I would like to thank Mr Walch, who is a very helpful, gentle and nice host. I gave us many advices that made our trip organisation easier. The breakfast is really good, copious and hearty. We can share discussions with other travellers from everywhere. The location is at 5 minutes by walk from the Underground Station Russel Square and buses are working all night. It's next Camden Market and next Hoxton. We've been out at night without having any problems.
The room was clean, the bed really comfortable and the decoration really typical. The ground and the stairs are a bit creaking but not enough to wake you up and that's part of charm of this hotel. The only little damage is that the showers doesn't work very well ( bad pressure and it take time to find the right temperature ). But that's really ALL. I'm impatient to go back to this hotel next time i go to London.

FRANCAIS : Bed and breakfast typique et chaleureux.

The showers did not work properly during our stay however the hotel is good if you're on a budget and want to stay in a good location close to Euston and other attractions. Look out for the big dog too!

The Albany is a budget hotel on a surprisingly quiet street in Bloomsbury. It is within walking distance of Euston and Kings Cross stations, Covent Garden and Piccadilly, and British Museum is just around the corner. There are many bars and restaurants near by.
The hotel is small and a bit quirky with narrow stairs and small rooms, but the rooms are cosy, clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are shared, but this was never a problem, even when the hotel was full. The showers were a problem though, with only a drizzle of water that went from very hot to very cold.
Breakfast is basic, cornflakes and toast around a communal table. There is a very nice coffee bar two doors on that serves good, organic, breakfasts.
The proprietors are friendly and helpful.
The Albany is good value for money, and I will stay there again.
