Whenever we end up in Greenwich, we always choose to travel back to Embankment on the clipper boat. It's a little bit of luxury and a great way to see all the sites along the Thames. If you're looking for a guided tour, this isn't for you. But if you know you way around London and just want to spot things for yourself, then give the Thames Clipper a go, you won't be disappointed!

We travelled from the O2 to Embankment, journey time about 50mins. Time well spend, great views of the buildings as they zip by. Travel Card and Oyster Card holders get a reduce price. There was someone on hand at the O2 to assist in purchasing the best tickets as well as using the machine. Tickets can also be bought on board. The boat was clean and tidy. Refreshments are available on board. Probably not the best trip for someone on a first visit to London as there is no running commentary. Far better than using the Tube or the buses.

we love cruising up the river than stuffy tube trains! and the thames clipper services is cheap and frequent, stopping at all major piers up the river, you can also pay via oyster which is a bonus too!

This is a lovely way to see many of the famous landmarks in London and go under Tower Bridge, You can use an Oyster Card to get a reduction in the cost of the full fare too! We travelled with a four year old who was as enthralled with the experience as we were. We travelled from Greenwich up the Thames to The London Eye pier but there were numerous stops where one could disembark to visit other attractions such as The Tower of London. There are special day roamer fares, so with a café and toilets a family of five could have a fabulous day out cruising The Thames for just over £30!

Following a trip on the Emirates Cable car we left North Greenwich and went all the way to embankment. If you have travelled by train you are eligible for a two for one discount. I think it's great that you can get to Greenwich and Putney so can put together an interesting day if you want to by using a rover ticket. The vessels themselves are covered with no outdoor seating and a type of catmaran. Staff are courteous but there is no commentry and if you don't know the sites of London you won't know what you are looking at. That said this is a great way to see different aspects of London and you can forget that you are in the capital as the waterways are not congested (unlike the tubes!) The Clippers are prompt and run every 20 mins. It was great sailing under both Tower and London bridges and you get some good views of the Eye, Big Ben and the houses of Parliament and the Shard to name a few. It is pretty accessible too as I saw a number of families with children using buggies and it didn't look like it was any hardship. There is also a Costa onboard. You can either get your tickets onboard or at the ticket office. A fantastic way to travel.
