Description: The Punch & Judy is a world famous pub landmark in its own right and is thought to be named after the puppet show performances that took place in the nearby piazza for the children of flower-sellers. Built in 1787, this listed building retains much of the original brick and stonework. It's known as being one of the very few buildings in the area that escaped bomb damage during the blitz. The pub is located facing the west piazza and from this balcony our guests have the best view to watch the street performers. It is clear why a pub in London’s Covent Garden Piazza bears this name, for it was here in May 1662 that Samuel Pepys came to see the performance of an Italian puppet play. This is the first record of a ‘Punch’ show in England and would have been a novelty at the time. The Punch & Judy serves fantastic British cask ales, selected wines and premium spirits as well as traditional British pub food such as fish & chips and steak & ale pie. The team look forward to your visit!

Great location and nice to go out on to the balcony and over look Covent Garden. The pub does get very busy and isn't that great inside.

We found this pub by chance whilst strolling around Covent Garden before going to the Theatre.
Downstairs has a bar and an intimate restaurant. Food was fast and great value for money. Also a bar and the pub is on 2 floors with a terrace for warmer days and possibly smokers. The great thing about it is the staff, quite amazing, and very talkative. Ideal for pre theatre suppers.

Three of us visited on a Sunday afternoon to have a few drinks and a bite to eat. They were very busy, so when we first went to order we were told that the kitchen was not taking orders for 15 minutes. This was not a great problem for us as we were not in a rush. When we finally got our food it was OK - pretty average pub fare. The service was friendly and the location is great.

We visited here before an afternoon visit to the theatre. I had a chicken & bacon wrap with salad which was delicious, but my friends croque monsieur & chips didn't look as appetising. We fancied sharing a dessert so asked the waiter how many churros were in a portion and he very helpfully found out for us (there were 10) which we had and they were lovely. As for prices I think that unfortunately when in London you have to pay high prices.

Stopped here for lunch, menu is pretty basic so you would expect that the dishes would be well prepared and tasty

Ordered the Croque Monsieur, but what came was a cheese and ham toasted sandwich with chips

Not a sign of any garnish at all

The other meals were equally as bland looking too

And the prices are way off line for the quality
