The Harrison Gastro Pub and Hotel

Reviewed December 5, 2011

We booked The Harrison on a whim realising that the local Travelodge wouldn't hold our luggage for the day while we waited for our night-time flight. What a find! It's about an 8min walk from Kings Cross station down a quiet street. The staff were exceptionally warm and friendly and the small pub on the ground floor has great character. Our room on the top floor (narrow stairs...no lift, you need to be mobile to stay here) was small but very clean, comfortable and had the feel of staying with friends rather than a more stale hotel environment. It was very quiet with no noise from traffic or the bar below. We had to travel downstairs to get the wi-fi to work, but the bar was a comfortable spot for surfing.

The night we stayed there was an acoustic music session on downstairs. The candle lit bar was full of what appeared to be friendly regulars - quite an eclectic mix of young and old. The staff extended the food-service hours so we could eat and the entertainment was very pleasant. Food was reasonably priced and very tasty.

We pre-ordered what we would like for breakfast and had it delivered to our room at no extra cost. Staff were accommodating to the dietary needs my partner and I have. They stored our luggage at no extra cost. At £59 for a double room including breakfast, this is a great independent alternative to the budget hotels nearby. I will definitely be returning.

The room was of good size and had all of the essentials I required, the bathroom was large, if only for the shower to be a little small. Staff were very friendly and the full English breakfast was superb. There was a little noise from one of the neighbouring rooms, but nothing to complain about. At £120 a night it sits ok in the market place. Location wise it is only a short walk from Kings Cross so is a handy hub for getting to most places in London.

November 9th 2011 - The place is just far enough away from Kings Cross to be fine. The good parts are the quality of the welcome and the lunch sandwich. The room was on the second floor and so not affected by the busy bar. On the other hand, the free wi-fi was not strong enough to interest my laptop more than once in 18 hours and then very briefly, the shower was useless and the breakfast (you say when you want it served) was served right on time - but had obviously been cooked much earlier.

Stayed five days on business. From outside looks a bit like an old pub, which of course it is - however...... The thing that made this place stand out was the warm and friendly staff, from the initial welcome to final goodbye there was a warm, friendly, non intrusive welcome. Food was good and promptly delivered. Rooms were basic but very clean, bed very comfortable and the minimal noise from the pub vanished quickly. Shower over bath was not too powerful and shower in colleagues room was on the small side. Was a pity the free wireless signal did not reach the bedroom, but not a mega problem, I just sat downstairs. Bill was quickly and efficiently sorted out. Hotel is a minutes walk from main road with loads of taxis....would I stay again.....yes definitely ......thanks guys.

Room Tip: If you are anything above average size beware the room with the small shower ask for one with bath...

Spent one night here for my girlfriend's 50th birthday. My heart sunk when I saw it from the outside, but inside the bar area looked pretty good and inviting. The pub allowed us to drop our bag off which was handy. Pluses: nice big cooked breakfast in the bar and a comfortable bed. Minuses: very noisy neighbours the night we stayed (not really the pub's fault), sour milk served for breakfast cereal and tea/coffee served after the cooked breakfast was laid on the table (I'm old fashioned and like a strong cuppa before I eat anything). The pub kindly gave us a reduction on our bill due to the noise that night which was very kind of them. Staff were also kind and apologetic. There are probably better places in London, but for the price it was pretty good.

We picked this place as it was good value for a relatively central location and it didn't disappoint. The staff were friendly and room clean. The noise from the pub died down by 11.30 and the rooms were located on the top floor (2nd floor) so we didn't feel too intruded.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast served up on time and filling (we opted for the veggie option - basic but did the job). Apart from the low water pressure and occasional noise from the air con unit outside, everything about the room, bed, and bathroom were fine.

Location wise, you're away from the city din, but close enough to Kings Cross to get to all the key sites.

We'd stay there again

Comfortable room and good bathroom in this pub with rooms. Although it is very close to Kings Cross and St Pancras, the street is very quiet so we enjoyed an undisturbed night. The full English breakfast was very generous and good quality, although a little overcooked. The pub below is friendly, not busy and a great spot for a few drinks. Altogether a great and superior alternative to chain hotels with similar prices in central London.
