Description: The Sussex in Covent Garden is a traditional London pub. You'll find us on Upper St Martins Lane, where Covent Garden connects to Leicester Square. Our menu is in the best tradition of British pub food. Best enjoyed with a drink, friends and always with a warm welcome. The area where the Sussex pub is situated has been a recognised thoroughfare since Saxon times. In Roman times this area also connected Westminster to the City of London. During the reign of King John (1199-1216) Long Acre was recorded as the northern boundary of the Covent Garden of the monks of St. Peter's Abbey. Over the years the area has been home to royalty, cartwrights and fruiterers in addition to famous names such as Nicholas Stone the sculptor, Oliver Cromwell and John Dryden. Today the area is still a bustling hub of activity connecting Covent Garden to Leicester Square. Our downstairs bar with a capacity of up to 100 is available to hire for private parties and functions. The team at the Sussex look forward to welcoming you!

The food was great, like quality and quantity. The beef was special and all the other english food were really good (fish n' cheaps, pies) .
The staff was very kind and the atmosphere was typical of london's pub
I really recommend you this pub!!!!!

“Nice place to stop by for drinks”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2013

The Sussex pub is located bang next to Leicester Square and is therefore always teeming with life in the evenings. It has some good ales and the food is standard pub fare. Its not a destination in itself but its a great place to take a break from all the walking up and down Leicester Square

“Nice for lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 29, 2013

We stopped in here on a Tuesday lunchtime and although reasonably busy got a seat by the window. The barman came straight over to us to say hello and offered to take our order when we were ready, a really nice touch for a pub I thought. We had drinks (the mulled wine was very hot and very tasty) and just a snack, loaded nachos with pulled pork, which were plentiful and good. Probably the best thing was the attentiveness of the staff (1 in particular, wish I'd asked his name). Overall very nice, good value for London, especially so near Covent Garden, and recommended for a pit-stop.

“Pleasant atmosphere for lunchtime drinks”

Met up with friends for Friday lunchtime drinks. It was a very short walk from Leicester Square tube and Covent Garden. It was busy but we got served quickly and I enjoyed the buzzy atmosphere.

“Good pub food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

Good food with friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere, we had the baked camembert to share which was plenty enough for two as a lunchtime bite to eat. Nice place to sit and watch the world go past, situated between Leicester Square and Covent Garden.
