“Disgusting!!!!”
Reviewed June 3, 2009

I stayed here for three nights with a couple friends, and we all found it aphaling. Not only were the staff totally unhelpful (all we received was snark when we pointed out that the room they sent us to had only dirty/already slept in beds and that they had given us the wrong keycard), we were forced to change rooms THREE times and we ended up in a room with GREEN mold. It was almost (but not quite) funny. The shower was bright yellow with a sign saying, "I'm not dirty - I'm just stained!" (aka FILTHY) and the breafast was meager. Not curtains/blinds and lots of street/train noise. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

I'm surprised the reviews of Astor Kensington is so bad - I stayed in here for about 3 nighs and thought it was alright. In fact this was the only hostel we stayed in the UK that has a tap in the room (we stayed in the private double room). The hostel may not be right in the middle of the city, but at least it was within walking distance to Harrods and Notting Hill (or probably its just that we enjoy walking too much).

Service was fine, although I'd have to agree that security seemed a little lax - but then again everyone seemed pleasant enough not to go around creating havoc in the place. Good if you're looking for quiet accommodation, but definitely not for people looking for a wild night!

We stayed in a private room at the Astor Kensington with a shared bath. We had opted for a hostel given the high London prices, but I don't know that this was worth the savings. The location isn't far from many attractions but the road itself the hostel is located on is unappealing. The hostel is rundown, our room barely fit a double bed, and it was on a wooden box squished into the corner of the room. Our window wouldn't fully close, and the noise from the nearby train station was constant. Unfortunately, so was the noise in the hostel. We're in our late twenties, and most of the other people at the hostel were younger and stayed up drinking and running through the hostel all night. One night someone even attempted to open our door, thinking it was the exit. The complimentary breakfast was pretty bad--orange soda, cereal and toast with spread s(some mornings there was coffee available and some not). The breakfast room was small with a blaring TV and hungover kids milling around the room. One highlight was the info we got on a local pub from the person working the desk--we had a great meal.

Suitable if you don't mind living in filth, risking bedbugs, risking having your stuff stolen and not getting any sleep. Everyone else - stay somewhere else. I was willing to pay the cancellation fee NOT to stay in this place. It was filthy and nothing seemed to be in working order and there were notes on the wall from people trying to find their missing stuff. Good luck!
