“Top Quality Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2013

I didn't stay at the hotel, but The Hitchcock Hotel came highly recommended from a good friend because both he knows just how much I love a good steak. The definition of a good steak has to meet my very VERY high standards. Needless to say I was suitably impressed when presented with a steak as big as my face. That is not an exaggeration, it was literally as big as my face. Massive plates, massive portions I'm big on eating and I really struggled to find room but you have to make the effort for food that good. very competitive prices, three of us had meals and drinks and a few shots and in total it only came to about £50. We had a great time, the staff were very friendly and helpful, both professional and happy to have a giggle with us. The only let down was the mustard. Cheap squeezy bottle French mustard, or squeezy bottle spicy mustard. Where is the English mustard? Surely essential?!

Anyway this place gets 5/5 for the restaurant, I'll let the lack of good mustard go in light of all the other qualities.

I'm considering taking a romantic weekend to stay a couple of nights with my beloved steak.

Room Tip: Pick a room at the front of the building.

We booked the Hitchcock Hotel for our wedding in March 2013, it's a superb Pub/Restaurant/Hotel which caters for up to 120 people it's a great party venue with bundles of character , having worked in the countries top venues and arranged many top parties, I'm fussy, however from start to finish Sophia and Leo were superb in every way, and the Staff are so pleasant and will help in any way they can. We had a party of 25 on Friday and around 80 people on Saturday. The Consevatory has its own built in sound system and lights of good quality which is a huge bonus if you had to hire this it would set you back around £500, the hot and cold buffet was great and all the guests were so pleased, the steaks they serve are huge and are certainly the best we have had anywhere 5 other guests agreed, (try the T-Bone 500g) Drinks are reasonably priced with Stella being 30p cheaper than the local, the rooms are great all are different and very quirky and so cheap which also includes breakfeast, We used to go to our Local pub where the food is good but from now on we will only eat at The Alfred Hitchcock, superb food, large portions a courteous personal warm welcome everytime.... something that is sometimes sadly missing from other establishments.
The only thing I'm upset with is that we did not find this venue sooner!
If your booking a Wedding a party or function The Alfred Hitchcock comes Highly recommended, it's the complete package but most important is the pricing, who said weddings were expensive? We saved a fortune finding this venue....actually my better half insisted on looking at the Alfred Hitchcock I said it would be too expensive well done Nicci xx
David, Nicci, Jay, Amy our family and friends would like to thank Sophia Leo and all the staff at The Alfred Hitchcock Hotel for making our Wedding Weekend such a special memorable event all your hard work was appreciated, we will be looking forward to seeing you many times in the future xxx
Have to say service and value for money were off the chart more like 6 out of 5

As is our tradition, Valentine's Day was spent running a workshop, this time in North London. the Sir Alfred Hitchcock Hotel was a couple of minutes from our workshop venue so there was little to deter us booking in for a couple of nights. Reasonably priced rooms, free parking and a mixed bag of reviews clinched the deal.

Despite some intriguing idiosyncrasies, we were not disappointed - indeed, they added to the charm.

Our top floor room was small and clean, with a pretty stunning view over east London. We had to laugh when, upon closing the door to our room, we heard a crash in the bathroom and found that one of the glasses, perched on the sloping glass shelf above the sink, had fallen to the floor! Hitchcock or what?!

The helpful staff quickly cleared up while we enjoyed a drink in the bar and warmed ourselves by the roaring fire.

We couldn't really do justice to the generous portions in the restaurant, not having done a hard day of physical work, but everything was freshly cooked and delicious. The Valentine's Day special featured an antipasti platter with enough olives, flatbreads, melon and other delights, for a small army, only to be followed by a main course vegetarian lasagne ( for me) that would serve four normal people, accompanied by an equally generous portion of potato wedges, whole my husband struggled manfully with what must have been a pound of steak. Fortunately, mother dessert was small and delicious, and it was all washed down with a little of prosecco and accompanied by roses and a bowl of chocolates. Delightful.

You get the idea. Portions are generous, staff are friendly - they even gave us a couple of glasses of wine on e house!

So, what might be lacking in elegance or ambience is more than made up for in friendly, attentive service, good, freshly cooked and plentiful food and pretty interesting surroundings... Plenty of pictures, letters and other Hitchcock memorabilia to prove that he really did live here! And the price was certainly right!

We would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: Maybe a room at thebback and probably avoid the top floor, where ceilings, are low and dormer extensi...

We stayed for 1 night in mid Feb 2013 and were very impressed by the hotel, the service and value for money. The room was clean with fresh towels and bed linin. It was comfortable and only slight distraction was a little bit of noise from road. Perhaps ask for room at the back. Breakfast exceeded our expectations, freshly cooked full English with self serve coffee, tea and toast. We are familiar with the area having lived here before but would recommend this for people coming from further afield looking for a good value place to stay in London. Central London is easily accessible via central line (Leytonstone) or Victoria line (Walthamstow) just a short bus journey away from outside hotel (257 bus to walthamstow). We would definitely stay here again.

Seriously for £49.99 for a Saturday night, this place quite simply is a hidden gem, with bags of potential. Everything is right about this place, the location, the service, the staff, the value for money. Cannot find fault in any aspect, if your looking for somewhere to stay around this area look no further, you won't be disappointed. Hat's off to the management and staff who clearly know how to run a hotel.

I stayed in room 25 for 4 days whilst on a business trip. The quality of the furniture was 1980's black ash. The bed was too big for the room and set in a tired wood frame which meant I was constantly banging my shins to manoeuvre around the room. No wardrobe or drawers. The only hanging space was a rail fixed to the wall. This meant your clothes were in effect hanging next to the bed making it impossible to utilise that side of the bed. The duvet was so thin I actually checked the duvet cover as I thought they'd forgotten to incorporate it.

The bathroom looked lovely. Ultra modern and in contrast to the bedroom was spacious. Boy, was it cold. Absolutely NO heating in there and it had a tiled floor. I didn't need an alarm clock in the morning as the kitchen extractors, which were outside the window were started at 7am.

The saving grace of this hotel were the staff. When I requested a blanket i was provided with a warm quilt and nothing was too much trouble for them.

First of all we want to say that we are very appreciated because we still conserve the old British style in our hotel. We feel sorry that we can't offer you what you can find nowadays in the modern hotels. You are also the first person which has a complaint about the bed being to big. We try every day to give to our customers the full comfort but sometimes is very hard for us to read minds. Regarding the noise at 7am is very normal for London; we know that is very hard for some customers who live in the country side to find the same quiet environment. If 49 pounds per night per room b&b for a double is "overpriced" for London than is hard to believe that you will find a cheaper option.

All the best,
