“Amazing breakfasts, shakes and desserts”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

This cafe/restaurant does the most amazing breakfasts, and their milkshakes and cakes are second to none!

It gets ridiculously busy on Saturday and Sunday late morning / lunchtime, so it's worth arriving early if you don't want to wait for a table.

The decor inside is modern and funky, and there is always a nice laid-back yet intimate atmosphere inside. There are a few seats outdoors in the summer but as it is on the busy Streatham high road I tend to avoid these.

The evening menu is also lovely and the portions are just enough without being too huge. It doesn't seem to get quite as busy for evening service which is surprising given the excellent food and reasonable prices.

My only criticism would be that the staff often take a long time to notice that a customer is waiting for service, so it's not the best place if you're a particularly impatient person. All in all though this place is an absolute gem!

“Great for breakfast!”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

I've never been for dinner but we always find that breakfasts are superb. I'm a fan of the poached eggs and salmon with hollandaise sauce and the Honey Healthkick milkshakes are amazing! An excellent hang out with friends or even on your own to have a good breakfast and read the papers!

“Basically excellent!”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Purple may not be a grand place but what they are is an excellent place. A straightforward menu that's guarenteed to satisfy any palate at a price sure to please the pocket. The menu cover the 'basics' and there are loads of specials to tempt the more gourmand eater.
So if you want an excellent 'full English', or something more elaborate like roast pork with to die for crackling you could do worse than spend a little in this charming eatery.

“Honest and unpretensious”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

This has become a real favourite with my family as somewhere you could get a good honest meal, mid-week or weekends, when all-day breakfast is always a good bet.

“Perfect place for a catch up”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

My friend and I decided that because we hadn't seen each other for ages we would like a glass of wine and a natter before ordering. Ths was no problem and what was nice that we weren't pestered when we were going to order. We ordered the halloumi salad and the crabcakes salad. Both lovely and extremely tasty and filing. I then had the coffee and walnut cake. Alot of places most cakes are dry. Surprisingly this was served slghtly warm. It was gorgeous! It was so nice i even forgot to pour the cream over that came in a jug on the side!! Finished off nicely with a very nice latte. For 1 wine, main salad, cake and a coffee, my bill came to £17. Not bad at all. Atmospehere fine, service great and food v good. One tip- don't sit next to the coffee machine like we did. When someone orders coffee, the machine is so loud we had a job to hear ourselves. We'll just pick a different seat next time ;-)
