“Great for a London stopover.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2013

Despite an initial run in with a cleaner who bashed our car with a bin store gate (and didn't apologise), we found this to be a very pleasant guest house. Having a car park at all was great in London, although I understand the on street parking is at a reasonable rate. The receptionist was excellent and had moved us to a nice big room near the top of the house overlooking the rear of the property and car park. We arrived early, having asked to leave our car in car park during the day but our room was available at 10.30am - fab! The en suite bathroom was small with a shower curtain (a pet hate of ours!) and the hot water took an age to come through, but when it did my shower was good and had decent water pressure. A few noisy internal doors slamming shut but apart from that, very comfortable. The breakfast buffet selection was very good, although fresh mushrooms and tomatoes would be better than tinned. Good location too, with plenty of restaurants plus the Tube within 12 minutes walk.

Room Tip: Apparently the rooms at the front or on ground floor are a bit noisier (passing traffic). We were or...

Fabulous value, wonderful service, great rooms. The only reason we didn't score the room 5, was the bed frame was a bit damaged. This didn't affect our comfort but if it were mended it would be a 5 star. Breakfast was excellent. Full English buffet style. I would have liked fruit salad but the cooked breakfast was really good. The great benefit for us was the off road parking and close proximity to St George's, Tooting. Reception staff were polite, welcoming and very child friendly, helping us with bags and children to the room. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room, tv, very clean bathroom. The room we had was very spacious and tastefully furnished overlooking the courtyard. Our only regret was we couldn't stay longer. We will definitely return in a couple of months.

You WILL NOT find anywhere else within 20 mins of the City at this price, nevermind the quality. I'll be coming back time and time again. Staff are eccentric, and absolutely brilliant. I'm fussy, but can't really mark it under 5 in any category - 6 for value for money.

We stayed for two nights at this B&B earlier this month and were pleasantly surprised. A beautiful house with obvious attention to detail with a stained glass front door and a warm welcome on arrival. The room we stayed in was at the front of the house so the road noise was noticeable but not too much of a drama and didn't stop us sleeping. The room and the ensuite were clean and the shower was great! Breakfast was good with a reasonable selection available. Would recommend and if in the area again wouldn't hesitate to use.

This is one of the most beautiful guest houses we have stayed in - it was built in 1889, in the Queen Anne style, as part of the Heaver Estate. It has been carefully and sympathetically restored and converted.
It is also by far the best value accommodation we have found in the London area. We paid £80 per night for a twin room and full breakfast, we were paying over £100 for much inferior accommodation nearer the centre some years ago! It's maybe 20 minutes from Balham to the Thames by tube, so not central but very convenient.
Our room on the first floor was cosy, comfortable, quiet and spotlessly clean. It was also compact and quirky - it started as a much larger room, a chunk has been cut out of it to create a separate single room, leaving an L-shaped room. It was attractively decorated and furnished in Wedgewood blue and white, with crisp white linen and fluffy white towels.
The shower room was small but had everything we needed.
Breakfast is hot and cold buffet - unusually the hot part is much more successful. The usual range of items, with particularly good grilled bacon, and they manage to keep scrambled eggs hot and moist which is difficult!
The cold buffet is much less interesting - sliced white bread for toasting, spongy croissants, but there's a good fruit bowl.
All the staff we encountered were delightful! Very polite and correct, but friendly, welcoming.
The house is a 12 minutes very attractive walk from Balham Station - there's a bus service but we were happy to walk. Balham has a good selection of restaurants - we particularly enjoyed Zizou Tagine for excellent Moroccan cuisine. If you want alcohol it's bring-your-own, but there's nor corkage charge.

My husband and I stayed here for one night, in a double room on a Saturday night. The B&B is really good value compared to most other hotels nearby. It's in a good location, close to Balham station and Clapham is also very close by.

Breakfast was good - cooked breakfast options served as a buffet which my hubby loved! The rooms are nicely done, nothing to write home about but they are clean and well kept. The bathrooms are a tad small but the shower is pretty good. Reception staff are helpful and friendly. All in all, a good night's stay.
