Travelodge London Central Southwark

Positives
The location is excellent, a 2 minute stroll from Southwark tube station and only a 10-15 minute walk from the London Eye.
The staff were very polite and friendly
The room was much better than I expected and the air conditioning unit an absolute God send

Negatives
It was a bit shambolic, we were given a room on the top (7th) floor, went up, let ourselves in and found another couple laying on the bed...boy could that have been more embarrassing, fortunately they were clothed! Turns out they'd only just checked in too!
The breakfast was a total washout, went down around 8.15, queue was back to reception, went back half an hour later, queue was even longer...no real organisation, just a bit of a shambles

Overall - while there were mistakes, and the room error in particular was for me inexcusable, I would consider going back. The positioning is fine, the room more than adequate for a weekend break (though bathroom supplies were limited to a tiny bar of soap) and the little shop next door was ideal for snacks or drinks. I'm waivering on 3 or 4 stars, but given the value for money in London it just sneaks a 4...

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor and our room was fine

We chose this hotel for 2 reasons - we wanted a hotel near a tube on the Jubillee line and at the time of booking we weren't sure if our son would be staying too and we didn't want to book 2 hotel rooms and he didn't stay - Travelodge offered rooms for 3 adults.

The hotel was easy to find and was only about 300 metres from the tube station. There are plenty of places to eat nearby and also plenty to see being only a short walk to the Tate Modern, Globe Theatre, Borough Market etc.

We arrived early and were able to leave our bags but not check in - fair enough. When we returned the receptionist enthusiastically told us "it's a large room". It was very large, with 4 beds (?), comfortable but basic amenities and bang smack next door to the mainline to Blackfriars Station, at rail level!

We had a comfortable night until the trains started at about 5.15am and when folks started to wake up to have their showers the pipes/hot water pump shrieked so loud ...

Breakfast was good but don't expect to get a seat if you go down at about 8am. The queue was out to reception.

It was basic, good enough but could have been improved upon. I'd be hard pushed to re-visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the rail line or a floor higher than the 3rd

I am a great Travelodge fan and I find that this one is good value for money and well located for transport links to the rest of London. Little that I can add to other posts except a mention of the really good pub just opposite - the Nelson. Good beer, good food and a smashing small beer garden to use if the weather is fine. A nice mix of locals and tourists. A street called The Cut has many restaurants and leads to The Old Vic and Waterloo station.

As a family of 5 we stayed in 2 family rooms for 2 nights to spend 3 days in central London. The hotel was perfect for our needs. As requested, when I phoned after booking we were given rooms on the top floor (7th) with a great view of the Shard. Both rooms were very clean and comfortable, the aircon worked brilliantly in very hot weather, the noise of the trains was negligible, it was very quiet all night despite being fully booked up, and the location was brilliant for the wonderful atmosphere of the South Bank (plus very near Southwark tube). Staff were friendly and helpful, and the added bonus of a free left luggage facility on the last day was really appreciated. And all at a rock bottom price of £50 per room per night. As recommended by others, we went next door to Carlo's for breakfast- staff lovely and food really good. We can't fault this Travelodge, and would definitely recommend it to families wanting a budget hotel in central London. PS Contrary to others' experiences we didn't get disturbed by dodgy plumbing in either room, so maybe the top floor is the place to be!

I must admit I find the travelodge chain to be a bit too basic for my liking situated on motorways with a little chef next door which I hate. Location and feedback assisted my choice this time and I have to say I was very pleasantly pleased. Not happy with being charged for an early checkin ( £10) at 13.00 ..... But it was a really hot day and so the air con was fantastic, staff very pleasant and helpful, room spotless, food well breakfast was good for the price....all in all very pleased ...quiet location and with the air con slept well in a very comfy bed.

Room Tip: Room 526 is round the back and very quiet

A perfect location for visiting central London and although I was a little worried when I saw the train line out of the window, it was one of the quietest hotels I have slept in. The air conditioning was a real bonus as we stayed on one of the hottest days of the summer - couldn't ask for more from a budget hotel.

We booked this hotel having been there once before, both times we have found this hotel to have friendly staff and very clean. It has a bar across the road and a shop which we found handy for a quick breakfast and snacks. The tube station is very close, only a few minutes walk up the street. The other bonus is that this hotel has air con which we used every night. We had a great sleep and found the beds really comfy....didnt hear much noise from the passing trains or street. We satyed for 6 nights and couldnt fault it at all...will def be booking to stay here again next time we visit london.
