My friend and I were wondering how long had we been coming to the Kolossi. Thirty years? More. Living outside of London, I don't come very often. But nothing changes. With the increasingly upmarket Exmouth Market round the corner and with Clerkenwell booming, you might have thought that the good old Kolossi would have been revamped or sold off to some chain or other. But no. At six o'clock the place is dark but you can see the familiar two waiters sitting and chatting over a glass. And the welcome is the same. Even if you hadn't been there for a few years, you're still welcomed warmly by the ever-youthful guy with the pencil moustache and his sidekick. The food doesn't change either and it's reliably good as well as traditional - we had the best crispest, freshest kalamari I've tasted in along time. The mains were excellent and served in gargantuan quantities. Retsina and Greek coffee to finish. Wonderful. Long live the Kolossi!
