Description: The Square restaurant in London's ultra-smart Mayfair has four right angles: great food, wines, service, and location. The dining room is a refined space where you can seal a deal, celebrate a triumph, or simply dine incredibly well. Chef Patron Philip Howard has earned a pair of Michelin stars for his unique French-inspired haute cuisine using impeccable ingredients to create dishes capable of both gossamer elegance and vivid boldness all in the same bite. Everything is superb, though we particularly recommend the herb-crusted saddle of lamb with shallot purée, artichokes, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The Square's wine list (wine bible, really) runs to 80 pages of the world's finest.

We visited this fabulous restaurant again and wasn't disappointed.
The atmosphere and service were perfect.
Since we don't eat meat (but do eat fish) we decided to take the vegetarian tasting menu, which priced 110 GBP. We had lovely three hours, nine plates meal. All dishes were carefully peppered and were delicious. For vegetarians and for those who are not, it is yet another proof that one doesn't need meat or fish to have a great meal.

My wife and I had the set lunch. The service was superb and pleasant. The flavours were very well paired and the dishes were visually stunning. The salty taste was a bit overdone for the mains which is disappointing for a Michelin 2 Stars.Overall, a memorable dining experience.

We visited the Square for dinner on a Friday night, the room was full and consequently very buzzy with a lively pleasant atmosphere. Every dish that we ate was very good indeed, beginning with an amouse bouche of a delicate cone of froie gras which was absolutely devine. We opted for the a la carte menu, my hot froie gras starter was excellent, we were then served a fantastic langoustine amouse bouche one of the best that I have ever had. My main was roast bresse pigeon, gorgeous. My dessert was a banana soufflé with stout ice cream, which I would thoroughly recommend. My partner's dessert was the blood orange cheese cake which she liked very much. Service from the staff was excellent, even the chef took the time to visit our table and ask how our meal was going. So to sum up we had a fantastic meal, great service and a lovely time. The standard of the food is very high indeed as is the service and it's two Michelin stars are well deserved. Do not be put off by the few reviewers having an issue with atmosphere, our experience was entirely the opposite. It goes without saying from my review that I could not recommend The Square more highly to anyone in search of a genuine first class two star experience. We have eaten at the restaurant before several times over the years and this meal came up to or even surpassed the high standard that we have become used to. Chef Howard is very talented.

had a great family lunch in Dec to celebrate our daughters 18th birthday just after christmas..
the experience and food was amazing and we all felt so relaxed throughout our special family day - its nice to think that teenagers are also able to experience the benefit of good quality seasonal food without feeling intimidated by the surroundings...certainly like being on a mini foodie holiday....

And so to The Square with the plan to go for the tasting menu

9 courses that were just wow!
This is our third experience of this type of meal - a pricey £200+ per head tasting extravanaganza where you just sit back to be wowed by the chef.

Le Manoir form three years ago still stands out with two memorable courses which we can still name, Turners in Birmingham was great but we can't remember one course now - so how will The Square compare over time?

I guess very well - we are still talking about the Langoustine, Turbot and Blood Orange courses but will possibly never forget the amazing final course of Banana Souffle with Stout ice cream - heaven!!!!

Bottle of wine, water plus tasting menu for two came to £346.50 and it was just about worth every penny - only gripe on the bill was it was a bit tight to charge £10 for two coffees at the end.

So why not 5 stars?

A bizarre criticism - but service was TOO good!
We had 11 different staff tend to us through the night - taking coats, choosing wine, bringing courses, taking orders, explaining courses and finally bringing the bill and taking money.

People came faster than the food - it became quite dizzying - these waiting staff have been trained within an inch of their lives, one even got rollocked for not giving us a full explanation of the food. I loved the humour and humanness of a few of them and would have appreciated a bit more of their friendliness and perhaps less function - a bizarre complaint I know.

Only other thing is don't come here for a romantic meal for two - it's fairly light in here and you won't gte 5 minutes to yourself at any point!

Otherwise - treat yourselves people!!!!!!
