Always lively with decent food and a great atmosphere - suggest you book ahead for lunch and some evenings. During the winter, it's good to have a long drink next to the fire places (although there no real!).

Stayed at The Hoxton and thought I would give this restaurant a try as I did not feel like leaving the hotel to get a bite to eat. The restaurant is dimly lit and very noisy. If you are not a fan of any of these "features" this restaurant is not a place for you. Staff that served me was friendly but when I wanted to ask for the bill it took several tries to get anyone to notice me even though it was no longer busy. As for the food, it is decent but not special. I had the green asparagus with chopped egg as a starter. Even though this dish was well executed and surprisingly tasty the chopped egg salad did overpower the taste of the asparagus. Had the flat iron steak as the main course - tasted good but nothing special. If you stay in the hotel you could give this restaurant a try. However, in my mind it is not worth traveling to Shoreditch to eat here.

We tried out the Hoxton Grill during our stay at the attached hotel, and we were really pleased we stopped in. The restaurant shares the off-beat, hip feel that the Hoxton Hotel pulls off so well, with two distinct areas - an 'outdoor' area with a retractable roof which opens to let the sunshine in, and a more traditional 'grill' area with booths, tables and beautiful red leather seating.

Seated in the latter, we were soon attended to by efficient, polite and attentive staff who couldn't do enough to help. The menu is brief but focused on good quality, well cooked grill style fare. The kitchen is open, and it's possible to watch the chefs at work preparing food - so it's clear that this is freshly cooked to order. Steak lovers are very well catered for, with an excellent range of meats - my wife selected a sirloin which was prepared exactly as requested, tasted wonderful and was soft and buttery. I opted for the whole bream with rosemary, which was presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. Our side order of jersey royal potatoes tasted wonderful too - strange to say perhaps, but it's so rare that you can actually taste potatoes in restaurants these days, where often bland, flavourless varieties dominate.

The wine list is extensive, and not exactly cheap - but we found a reasonably priced bottle of unoaked Chardonnay which was very good indeed. The supply of bottled water is also plentiful, and when we'd finished our main course a desert menu was swiftly offered. I wasn't going to indulge on this occasion, but the idea of Peanut Butter filled Choux Buns was too much to resist.

This is a busy, buzzy spot which completely lives up to the spirit and hype of the adjoining hotel - but the cleverly designed interior means it retains an intimate feel too. We had a great meal, loved the experience and couldn't fault the food or the service at all.

Went for dinner on a Friday night and breakfast on Saturday morning (stayed in the hotel). Friday night - very busy, buzzy, noisy - noise meant it was a party atmosphere not a conversational or romantic atmosphere, but because of the noise, as a group you wouldn't be able to talk to most of your party (just whoever was next to you). Somewhat boring semi-American themed menu, although there were a few vegetarian options and they were really nice. Wait staff were very good both for dinner and breakfast (full veggie English was excellent). This is a very trendy hotel/bar/restaurant.
