Description: The Blue Door Bistro provides a welcoming and informal bistro-style setting, with a fantastic menu to match. Light and airy at lunchtime and warm, cosy and candlelit by evening, the room is decorated on three sides with an antique panoramic view of London circa 1849: together with the rich mahogany panelled walls, effective use of mirrored glass, and contemporary wrought iron wall lights, an ambience rooted in the hotel's location is beautifully achieved. Executive chef, Martin Halls, used the finest of seasonal British ingredients, seasoned with the freshest of herbs from Chef's kitchen garden. With a wide range of vegetarian dishes and salads, commended with an AA rosette for its cuisine, you can rely on good honest food and impeccable service. We only use free range eggs and are committed to using sustainable fisheries for our fish supplies.

The best was exactly service. Food was also really good. Average wine and London prices.
I would recommend this place for dinner.

“Lovely place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

My boyfriend and I ate here on a Saturday night (it was a trip for the NFL at Wembley). The hotel is a 5-10 min walk from Russell Sq tube station. The hotel lobby area looked very luxurious. We were asked if we wanted to sit in the front or back room and opted for the back. It was quite quiet-almost too quiet at times, don't know whether some quiet music would be better?
The staff were all very warm and very polite. The service was quick. We were offered a selection of breads and drinks. The drinks are a bit pricey which we only found out later. The wine menu only had wine, no other drinks in it. There was a great choice of wines. We had vodka and gin with tonic and lemonade. The spirits were £8.50 and the mixers were about £2.50!
I had the goats cheese salad, the rump of lamb and the vanilla cheesecake, all of which I loved. My boyfriend had the fishcakes, the Chopped Steak and the cheesecake; he liked it all but the steak. I tried some and it did have a bit of an odd taste.
We chose this restaurant as it is central London, near a tube station and wanted somewhere nice, but not pretentious and overpriced. We were happy with our choice and would love to have stayed at the hotel itself but was a bit pricey for us!

Dear guest,

Thank you for your recent review of the Blue Door Bistro. I was delighted to read that you enjoyed your meal with us, in particular the service that you experienced.
I was however disappointed to read that you did not enjoy the main course steak. Please allow me to assure you that all of our meat comes from a very prestigious London supplier and is rigorously stored and prepared in accordance with national guidelines. I am sorry that you did not enjoy this part of the meal. I am delighted, however, to read that you did thoroughly enjoy all of the other elements of your dining experience.

We look forward to welcoming you back again to dine with us soon.

Kind regards,

“food, staff, ambiance all up to scratch in this bistro behind the British Museum.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2013

In Bloomsbury, needed a meal to finish of the day. Saw this mentioned on squaremeal and as we were walking past, thought we'd try out luck. The restaurant, part of the Montague Hotel was mostly empty, but looked nice enough on first impressions, staff greeted us were friendly and showed us to a table. Bistro style menu was simple, maybe 5 choices for each course. We skipped starter so we could indulge on desert. We had chopped steak and sea trout for mains, then rice pudding for desert.
a selection of salt was served with the meal, plain, smoked and vanilla, the last as recommended, complimenting the fish very well. All the food was very good, served by friendly, polite staff, with just the right level of class - not too posh, but highly professional.
Prices were reasonable considering the part of town.
Cream tea looked good too, so next time I'll give that a whirl. Would visit again.

Small little restaurant inside The Montague on the Garden Hotel. Food was very good, slightly pricy but had great service, nice view of the inside courtyard and excellent staff.

“Relaxing dinner with excellent service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013 via mobile

Just returned from dinner. Both had Thai fishcakes starter, fresh and tasty. Both enjoyed prawn stroganoff mains - again very tasty..tiny slivers of gherkin nice touch...side veg was ok. Desserts - light cheescake with homemade honeycomb. Lovely coffee icecream with pecans and banana, which I think was semi dried, fresh banana would have been nice. See pics.

Service excellent, in particular friendly waitress (I think German) and chatty Scottish waiter.

Lots of drinks offered but not pushy.

Quiet atmosphere with only a few residents and passers by. Very pleasant and.will return.
