“Good stay, excellent location for Eurostar”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2013

Very happy with stay.

Good points
. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
. Good size room (was more expensive room).
. Comfortable bed. Slept as well as jet lag would allow.
. Staff in restaurant excellent at breakfast time.
. Was bit unsure when I saw wooden floor in room, but was good and room didn't have and old dusty smell.
. Close to Eurostar

Room for improvement
. Bath is very high to get in. May be difficult for elderly
. Bit of woodwork around bath could be replaced.
. Room possibly could possibly use a coat of paint
. Room noisy on busy road. Double glazed windows, so.....

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing busy road.

This was far better Hotel than we had hoped for in London. Nice room with wooden flor (no soft carpet as we asked for), which they also confirmed at check in. Proper furnishing and good maintenance at the hotel as well in the room. Nice staff and good, well sized breakfast. I would book this hotel again. Ingemar

Due to the high standard of living in London, we know that hotel accommodations will certainly take a chunk of the budget. With four people (inclusive of 2 pre-teens) traveling together, we dread at the possibility of a 2 room accommodation. Luckily, we read about the 3 to 4 pax accommodation being offered by certain boutique hotels such as Megaro. To our pleasant surprise, the family room was quite spacious and can fit 2 Asian adults and 2 kids quite comfortably; including 3 bulky luggages and 2 hand carry bags.

Aside from the numerous good reviews, another important reason we chose Megaro is due to its strategic location fitting in perfectly with our travel plans. Being located across King's Cross station enabled us to travel via Tube all throughout London. It also enabled us to conveniently leave our bulky luggages at Left Luggage since we had to travel to Edinburgh for a couple of days with our overnight bags; and then come back to London for a few more day before flying off. We needed to do this since we were checked in another hotel located near the shopping district of Oxford after returning from Edinburgh. For the men, you know how it is with women, the remaining days are devoted for her shopping needs. Megaro's location made our mobility seemed seamless.

Other plus factors: friendly and helpful staff, rooms are made up regularly, outside noise is not a problem since our room faces the inside, free WIFI in the room, a coffee machine in the room which provides us our daily dose of caffeine, some fresh fruits we can pick up at the counter daily, and a nearby convenience store.

Negative factors: not much good restaurants in the neighborhood except for their own Karpo restaurant and 2 Italian restaurants nearby.

We had a nice stay at the Megaro Hotel, here are the pros & cons

+
* Rooms are lovely, clean & quite
* Beds are comfy
* Location is ideal when you want to stay near King's Cross
* They kept our luggage all day on day of check out
-
* Breakfast was not included in the room's price and it was not possible to reserve it online when we booked the hotel -- but when we went to the hotel's restaurant to have breakfast in the morning, we have been charged like any other customer of the restaurant (and the restaurant is quite expensive!). So be careful about that when booking if you want to have breakfast at the hotel, because if you don't book it online, you can easily pay a fortune for some orange juice and small portions of bacon.
* In my room (211), even with the curtain down, there was still a lot of light in the room at night (because of some lamps on all night outside I believe)
* The wifi worked really occasionally which can be an issue when you want to plan your trip for the day

A top quality hotel in a great location, close to the tube and over ground lines of Kings Cross and St Pancras. My choice if traveling on the Eurostar, especially if you have an early trip. Also so easy to get to central London by tube or bus. Not far from Camden markets. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Room service and housekeeping were excellent. Rooms are refurbished in a modern boutique style with plenty of wood and glass, beds were very comfortable. Coffee maker in room was a bonus. Some noise from street, sirens, but you are in a major city so to be expected. Recommended and definitely will be back there in the future.

The Megaro Hotel is a modern hotel that has one very big plus: the location. Opposite King's Cross station, you can reach Oxford Street, the West End and Soho in just a few minutes. We stayed with five, so we were very happy to be able to book a room for 3. But be aware, the third bed is quite short. The hotel has very good amenities, such as free leaf tea in the room, an excellent rainshower and free wifi. Definitely a hotel to remember for my next visit to London!

Room 311 stank of carpet freshner to the point where it made me feel sick and gave me a headache. I complained and the man from reception who also sniffed the room agreed it was OTT advised me to open the window. Unfortunately the window opened into the area above the kitchen extractor so all the was available to replace the Shake'nvac was warm greasy air. I ended up paying nearly £400 for 2 nights at the Megaro which would have been a lot for a room without the aftermath of a chemical war waged on either a sick/urine covered carpet or years of kitchen fumes. For the stay I experienced they should have paid me the £400. The wood around the bath was also mouldy and the sheets smelled of coco butter. Given that it was nigh on impossible to smell anything in the room whoever stayed the day before must have showered in the stuff. All-in a bit poor.

Handy for Eurostar though!

Room Tip: Call the day before you go to request a room without carpet freshner and don't stay in 311
