“It's Pizza Express, but a bit blander than usual”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

A quick two courses for a singleton dinner as I was away in London on business: Pizza Express was round the corner from the hotel so I gave it a whirl.

The meatball starter was pretty good; the tomato sauce had some nice spicy peppers in it, and the quantity was just right. Similarly I couldn't fault the service - at 5:30pm it wasn't particularly busy, but the staff were attentive and quick.

The disappointment was the pizza. I tend to go for the Diavolo on a Romana (thin) base, because I like spicy stuff. At my local Pizza Express back home the peppers have a kick to them, and the chilli oil would probably dissolve the varnish on the table if you spilt it (Diavolo does mean "devil", "demon" or "fiend", after all). As far as the peppers on the London Pizza Express go ... well, I've had leeks with more flavour. And the "chilli oil" did seem to have stuff in, but it didn't really taste of anything at all.

In short, then: good service, good starter, disappointing pizza. And given that the restaurant has "pizza" in its title, that's the bit you ought to enjoy most.

“Poor food and service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

We visited here before going to the British Museum as we were pushed for time. The place was almost empty and lacking in character and warmth. The chairs were too low for the tables so eating was awkward. Although the waiter we had was smiling and polite, I never felt that there was any real engagement and people served by another waiter did not even get a greeting, let alone a smile. Food was under-seasoned - my guest had a warm veg and goats cheese salad that was dreadful. I had the pollo and chorizo salad. Too many leaves and not enough of anything else, including flavour. Weird idea to put in so many baby onions. Not much skill involved in creating these meals. This place is obviously used to tourists who don't need to be won back. Won't be trying a pizza express again in a hurry.....

Eaten here many times when staying in the Bloomsbury area. Always enjoyable and delicious food, with good service. Recommended.

“Good food and service”

Excellent service!!!. We had the salads which we really like because of the breadsticks. Also desserts and coffee were up to the usual standard in Pizza Express.

“As you would expect for Pizza Express”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2013

Called in at 6 pm, lots of space and quickly to a table. As usual with Pizza Express standard menu, chose the lasagne for a change, sizzelling round the edges, cool in the centre, but still OK.

Serive quick and efficient, no complaints.
