“Cathedral size disappointment”
Reviewed August 19, 2013 via mobile

Popped in for a pizza after a visit to the beer festival at Olympia. The restaurant is huge (70+ tables) and it has no atmosphere. It feels like you are eating in a school canteen with all the noise echoing around this cavernous venue.

Service was slow, prices steep and portions small. I had the garlic bread - dry, recently defrosted processed rubbish. A travesty to call it bread. The pizza was better, but I could count on one hand the number of bits of beef sprinkled on it. The tomato topping was spread so thin I thought the dough was stained red. Chewy dough and lukewarm.

My wife had mushroom bruschetta and it was awful. It was the processed rubbish that was used as garlic bread with mushrooms and onions sprinkled on top with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. It was a stodgy mess with dried mushrooms that was served nearly cold. After complaining the price of the bruschetta was taken off the bill (bumping it to two stars). The complaint was initially challenged suggesting we did not know what authentic bruschetta tasted like. We explained that we had widely travelled and this dish was not as described and was not bruschetta.

I should have known the restaurant was not popular with only a few tables occupied during a busy festival next door.

The standards of this chain are definitely slipping and this venue does them no favours. If you want to try one of their pizzas and see first hand the measly toppings check out their supermarket branded versions - shame on you Pizza Express.

If I go to Olympia again this restaurant is not on my list for a revisit.

“Room too big - no atmosphere”
Reviewed July 4, 2013 via mobile

Classic PE food & drink obviously, so you know that it is good news, however the building & restaurant itself is a huge space with very high ceilings meaning that on a week day when its less than half full it is very 'echoey'. Im sure it may be different at the weekend or when there is an event on next door, but during the week it is a let down experience-wise.

“Pizza Express gone down”
Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

Popped in for lunch. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food on the other hand was a different story. My husband I ordered bruschetta with mushrooms as a starter to share. When it was brought to the table it looked it like a pretzel that was having a pool party with a kilo of onions and a couple of mushrooms in a pint of cream. Then we ordered Caesar salad. It was no different to a supermarket pre packed salad and the dressing tasted like Heinz. Very disappointing!!
