After spening the afternoon in Hatton spening a few £££'s, this was a nice place to relax and enjoy your chosen steak.

We booked the Gaucho for New Year for a family party of 7. We generally eat in the restaurant in Manchester where we've never had a bad meal. Chancery Lane is as good. The ambience is opulent without being stuffy, the service attentive and helpful and the food mouthwateringly delicious. The bill remains eyewatering but I guess you get what you pay for. Two tiny quibbles ; Part of the ambience resides in the subdued lighting so it was helpful (if ironic) that the waitress helpfully handed us a torch. If you need torches its probably a little too dark. This is not a major point however as if it was any brighter it might destroy the atmosphere. The second small niggle revolves around the 'optional' gratuity. Tips in the States revolve around reasonably priced food. The UK does not have the same pricing structures. Hence to add a gratuity to the Bill of £56 when the prices are already high seems slightly OTT.

I had very high expectations for Gaucho and at first it was looking good after the wonderful starters however it went downhill from there. When the steaks arrived they were super salty and my dessert was super sweet, to the point I didn't finish both courses and I love my food.

The decor was very nice but dark. The staff were very friendly and attentive which was great.

It was a good night but I think there's better in London.

If you like a DJ playing loud beats, very dim lighting and chavvy patrons this will suit you. We couldn't hear conversation across the table as the music was so loud. Another Patton complained and after a massive atgent he was moved downstairs. We asked for music to be turned down and each time it was momentarily lower before DJ would crank it up. Couldn't read the menu as it so dark. Had to use iPhone torch ! As with otger goucho's they brought around meat samples to aid our steal selection. . Not aure why as coulsnt see them and they looked like dark indistinguishable limps. Glass tables had no placemats so when we cut the steal the plates kept sliding backwards and forwards across the tables. Steak were average. Hawksmoor and Goodman's are far superior and not that much more expensive. Really poor service. It really feels like a chain and the manager and staff font care. Don't go - this place is heinous and a real disappointment.

Big selection of very well cooked Argentinian Steaks. Extensive wine list of Argentinian wines which are quite expensive but always good. I never bother with a starter here as the steaks are what I go for
