“london weekend trip”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

I looked round for a good priced b & b fairly central for most attractions in London and Central Park in Finchley came up at £59.00 for a triple room on a Saturday night so I booked it.After reading some of the reviews (after booking) I was a bit worried what I'd booked, but it was'nt that bad, ok it could do with a bit of tlc & it is'nt great and our room was basic but the bedding & towels were whiter than white and the room was nice and warm with a telly and tea and coffee making facilities and we were only staying for the one night. breakfast was continental with a choice of cereal, ham, cheese, toast, jam, orange juice, tea & coffee or you could pay an extra £3.75 and have a full english. The breakfast room was very busy and the staff rushed round to keep up but were friendly. The underground is only a few minutes away and for an overnight or weekend stay for the money it was alright but would'nt stay for longer.

Ok so for £40 for a twin room you cant expect perfection, but i must admit the room we had (room 514) the flooring was warped and uneven (Laminate flooring) one of the plug sockets was loose and showed exposed live wiring.
Breakfast was only basic, toast (which you had to toast yourself) no trays to carry stuff on, so had to go back too and fro

Room was at least clean and quiet.

Needed extra pillows and had to ask for extra milk/sugar and tea bags (there was only 2 tea bags, 4 packets and sugar and no milk in the room

Room Tip: Dont expect perfection for £40 (twin room)

The room smelled of damp and had a mass of mildew the walls behind the beds. The electricity sockets pulled out of the wall when removing a plug, exposing live wires behind it. This place should be closed down before someone is hurt or contracts some illness or other.

Comfortable stay at this hotel. The only downside is the shower room and toilet needs some repair work as the toilet did not flush properly and the shower contained mildew in areas. The room in general was ok, but could have done with more decorating (freshening up). The water in the bathroom stated the water was not drinkable, so to make it safe to make tea or coffee you had to boil the water in the kettle as there was no where else to get water from. The window was draughty and need a good clean. Apart from that, its good value for one nights stay and the breakfast was included in the price and was reasonable.

Initially I was confused about where my hotel was as there are two Central Park Hotels, this one is at Finsbury Park, five or six tube stations from The centre of London. It is a budget hotel but does have all amenities, however a bar fridge would be nice to store food stuffs.

The staff, especially Jem, were very helpful and willing to make my stay in London good. There is a lift in the hotel, but everyone seems to take the stairs.

The rooms are older but clean. It has all that is needed for putting your head down and sleeping. I am here to explore London, not the inside of a hotel room. The tube stop is a two or three minute walk down the road and there is a bus stop close by as well.

Overall, a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: I had a double, but if you want a bit more space, the room i looked in that had two singles seemed...

Stayrd for a family weekend trip in London and was attracted by the location to tube. The hotel was easy to find and staff were friendly and helpful. The only problem was the room. It was a room with one small double, two singles and an ensuite shower room. The room was very tired and desperately needed decoration. The main problem was the drains in the shower room which were very smelly. Overall the hotel requires a complete refresh and the drains need updating. However there was hot water and coffee and tea was provided along with a TV in the room and access to free WiFi in the reception but not guaranteed in the rooms, but we managed to get access.

After having read some of the reviews about this hotel I feel that some perspective is needed. The hotel is very basic with cheap furniture, rather uncomfortable beds and a bathroom with a lot to desire but on the other hand what do you expect when you pay less than £50/night for a double room in London? The location is convenient on a quiet street a short walk from the station and the breakfast was good.
Regarding the area, I've lived in the Finsbury park area for more than five years and love the area with its great ethnic restaurants and cafes and never had any problems. As a tourist, staying in this area gives you the chance to experience the life of real Londoners. It is true that you will need to have your wits about you and you will see the occasional homeless person but that's no different from most of inner city London.
