“Good breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

We had kayaked up to Chelsea from Tower Hamlet's and came across this pub as we were looking for a late breakfast. Although there were 12 of us they managed to rearrange tables so that we could all be accommodated and the food was well prepared and we were all served at the same time.
As it was a late breakfast we also managed an early lunch time pint. The beer was great. A good place to pop into if you are in the area.

“Not as good as expected”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013

We've eaten in The Surprise and The Brown Cow, which along with The Chelsea Ram is part of the Geronimo chain. We have always enjoyed eating in the first two and tried The Chelsea Ram last night. The waiter didn't seem to know very much about the food but was prompt with the service. The food was very average. The 'Butler' steak was tasteless and a bit chewy, the chips were delicious. The cod was beyond its best and we sent it back, the replacement was the same though so we lost faith in the chef's ability to sniff out fresh food.
The wine list was good, although the Doombar beer wasn't available.
Sadly, we won't return as the vibe in the pub is good.

“A lovely local pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2013

Most evenings you will find this place buzzing with happiness, merriment and laughter. Exactly what a local pub is meant to do. The meals (most around £12-£14) are terrific and the drinks go great with the snacks at the bar. It doesn't try to be anything it's not, so don't go expecting Michelin stars. It's a pub, and a great one at that. Ps- it is no longer a Youngs pub, rather part of the trendy Geronimo group

“A Bit Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013

Visited this gastropub recently with a pal who lives near by and loves the place. He had the steak and chips which he said was delicious. I had the cod and french peas which was not delicious, or at least the cod wasn't as it was not fresh. Cod should be firm and white and meaty, this cod was grey and flaccid and flaky as though it had been frozen too long or too often. Disappointing.

“Don't get complacent...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

I've been here many times and always liked the food. The service can be a bit remote at times, and occasionally you get an outstanding manager that really knows their stuff, and the service is excellent. Lunch the other day was a let down. The place was barely full... Nobody said hello or cleared the table. They prepared the table next to us instead.
How hard is it to welcome people, clear the table, wipe it, take a drinks order, and hand out menus? Apparently for some, it's very challenging. I don't want to have to chase staff in an empty restaurant.
These are basic things than make the difference between an amateur operation and a serious one. To be fair, this is not my typical experience at The Chelsea Ram. But on this occasion, the manager was asleep, the staff were dopey and hopeless - and I just can't enjoy being around lazy indifference. The food was fine.
