Description: It must be those of us who are too young to hit the hippy trail have a secret hankering to get away from it all in a kaftan. However, instead of jumping on a ferry from Southern Spain and heading for North Africa, we do it in our lunch hours and head for the nearest North African restaurant. Souk is very much like stepping into Morocco - all low seating, cushions, low lighting and vibrant colours. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening they lay on belly dancing, and there is a dj after 11pm every night except Sunday and Monday (and every night during December!). Very Moorish if you are looking for a cheerful, cheap venue in the centre of town.

I'll be honest and say I wasn't mad about the food....but that's purely because their menu didn't particularly suit me. Having said that we were presented with an absolute feast so there was plenty to try and I certainly did leave hungry! What's great about this place is the atmosphere and uniqueness of the den hidden below the busy streets. Once over the threshold you're instantly transported to the narrow passages, rich colours, heavy fabrics and musky scent of Marrakesh. We got the top spot .....a tiny tucked away den downstairs at the very back through a heavy dark door into a bunker under the street....a tiny cosy nook full of cushions and lanterns and a huge brass tray that served as a table. It was a scream!!! Next best thing was the booze....killer cocktails....god knows how many shots but they were loaded and went down a treat! Above all though was the service!!! The manager was amazing!!! A young enthusiastic guy full of ideas and super friendly who bent over backwards to make sure we had a great night...and left as friends! I would definitely go back to Souk.....for the experience and fun factor!

We had tea here and it was very fresh and tasted great!

The atmosphere was very nice and unique. It's a little hard to find because Its on the side street but if you can find it then its worth checking out. I believe this restaurant can get very busy at night.

As we asked abaout the availability of a table to doorman outside dressed in blue rudely said ok, but you need to leave at 7.30pm. No problem we thought. Then as we were eating at the table just after 7pm he incredibly rudely said we had to leave shortly. This person should not work for the restaurant.

The chicken tagine was ok, the lamb tagine was nice. Our waitress was lovely and helpful.

Overall, pretty good food, slightly overpriced, nice service with the exception of the rude doorman!

We were given our own restaurant room and shared a number of meat and vegetarian dishes which were very good. With the surprise belly dancer - it made the whole evening worth it - just to see my friend's rather bemused faces. The lady who did the dancing was a good sport. Would I recommend this restaurant. yes but probably better for groups maybe rather than couples.

I loved the place, the food, the ambiance... If you want to enjoy a really nice dinner with friends, this is the place. The cocktails are also pretty nice.
