Description: Whether you are a fan of the ever-popular Rasa chain or just love authentic Keralan food, you should definitely pay a visit to Rasa Maricham. Tucked away inside a Holiday Inn, you might be surprised to find this little gem just a stones throw from Kings Cross station. The restaurant specialises in dishes from Kerala, the South Indian state sandwiched between the Western Ghat mountains and the Arabian ocean. The menu here is varied and has won numerous recognitions and awards for them. Zagat gives 24 out of 30 for Food and says" Serving “authentic, unusual” Keralan food at “outstanding-value” prices".

I've been here a few times and would highly recommended it for people who want authentic south indian food. The food is on the spicy side and extremely tasty. Every dish has a unique flavour unlike lesser "Indian" restaurant where everything tastes like it's been made from the same sauce base. However, it might be challenging to order the right dishes if you aren't already familiar with the food. I've always gone with friends who speak the language and had help deciphering the menu.

I've been to a plethora of Indian restaurants in and around the Kings Cross/Euston/Bloomsbury area, and this is definitely up there with the best. The Southern Indian style is a welcome change to the norm: spicing is more subtle and there is a real freshness to the food.

I had Lamb Puffs for starter (which were very delicately spiced lamb/potato pasties with a contrasting chutney) and Maricham Chicken Thalassery for main - a really warming hot curry without any burn.

The menu is fairly concise and encourages you to try new things rather than stick to old standard curries. The meat in the curries was much higher quality than I've experienced elsewhere. It's not the cheapest, but very good value.

The only downside to this place is that you have to walk through a Holiday Inn reception to get to it. Once inside it doesn't feel like a "hotel restaurant", service is very efficient, un-rushed and friendly. Definitely worth the 5 minutes extra walk South from the cheap and (not so) cheerful curry houses of Kings Cross.

We wanted to eat reasonably close to the Euston area where we were staying but in a worthwhile Restaurant and we came up with the Rasa.
It turned out to be further than I had thought but that wasn't a problem-we had booked, but as a number of reviewers have pointed out, it can be quiet.
My wife had chicken samosa with a dip to start and a Prawn dish to follow, which she found a little spicy. She normally goes for "medium" but she found a build up of heat over the 2 courses. She was offered yoghurt to cool it down, which she finally accepted and for which there was no charge. The mango sorbet as dessert also contributed to the solution.
I had the dumplings to start, followed by the chickpeas, which were tasty. We also had rice, chappatis and a paratha. I also had a dessert and we both felt we had not over eaten.
The dishes were by no means huge but were very well cooked-probably my best ever chickpeas.
The menu is quite small, but I think that works very well here as all the dishes are so well cooked.

The portions are not huge

Despite this being situated in a Holiday Inn - don't be put off. This is a real find. A genuine Keralan restaurant serving authentic dishes against all the odds ( which include their laminated menus!). The service and food were both fantastic on the two occasions I have visited in the last month, and they even demonstrably knew 'me' and my previous table number / order on my second visit. Lots of attention to detail, but more importantly, the food was both really good and very reasonably priced for London.

This place suffers because it is located in a Holiday Inn- but it is a great restaurant, and well worth finding. Only 10 minutes walk from Kings Cross Station.

Don't let the hotel location deter you, this restaurant has fantastic authentic food. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the service is very fast and unobtrusive. The prices are very reasonable and inexpensive, especially for London. The menu is not the usual set of Indian dishes, and there are some tantalising options. If you just want the same old boring stuff then this restaurant will be wasted on you, and you should stay away. This restaurant has some amazing and unusual flavour combinations and the cooking is of a truly excellent standard. If you love real Indian cuisine then you will not be disappointed.
