“Nice but noisy”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

Stayed here for three nights. The apartment was in good condition, it had all the usual amenities and appliances including dishwasher. Nice bathroom and speedy free wifi. Three gripes: the corridors had a terrible smell (which thankfully wasnt in the apartment); the apartments are right above a tube line and you can hear the trains rumbling and feel a vibration until just after midnight and it starts up around 5am again - not for light sleepers and lastly the springs in the mattress weren't in great shape. There was outside noise but just the usual London crowd of cleaners etc, no pubs wreaking havok until all hours.

Dear Crispinophur

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you found us to be well-located and that your apartment was nice and clean. We apologise for the smell on corridors, I will have our housekeeping team look into it.

I was disappointed to read that you were not entirely happy with your stay and found the room in particular noisy and affected by the noise from the underground. Sadly the noise that the underground generates is very much beyond our direct control, but this does only impact a few of our rooms. Should we have known that this was causing you such a disturbance I would have hoped that my team would have arranged for an alternative room away from this noise. I have now updated your personal profile to ensure that on any future stay you will be allocated away from this noise.

We look forward to seeing you again.

We stayed in a two bedrooom apartment one weekend in early June.
We had a little noise on Friday evening from a club nearby, but other than that, everything was first class.
Marlin Apartments Queen Street is very conveniently located for three Underground stations, Mansion House, Cannon Street and Bank. That makes travelling in London easy.
You also have St Paul´s Cathedral just around the corner and lots of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance.
The apartment in itself is well equipped, and spacious, and in reception we were met with a smile, every time we passed them.
So, a good place to stay when in London.

Spent 6 nights in Apartment 7. The size of the 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath apartment and the location of its building could not have been better. It is within walking distance of St. Paul's, 3 or more Tube stations, various bus routes, Tower of London, Millennium Bridge, Shakespeare's Globe, SouthBank and, if you are up for a long walk on the south bank of the Thames, The London Eye.

Disappointments:

We arrived several hours before check in and they offered to hold our luggage. However, we were asked to leave our luggage in a foyer without any restricted access. I wasn't comfortable with the arrangement but had no choice other then to tour London pulling two bags. Leaving the bags turned out fine, but was disconcerting none-the-less.

The apartment is starting to appear tired. There are some stains on the bedroom carpet, the toilet paper holder in bathroom 2 was missing, the "wood" floor appears to have been flooded in the past around the bathroom door in the hall, a window latch was broken off the window and it couldn't be closed all the way, and some of the drapes were off their hooks.

The major item was a horrific smell in the hall on the way to the elevator. We could never determine if it was the smell of burnt food, some unknown cleaning product or what it was, but it made for a very unpleasant walk to the elevator. Luckily the odor never reached our end of the hall.

Overall, I would recommend this location of Marlin Apartments due to its location and as it is difficult to find reasonably priced, clean, safe accommodations in London.

Room Tip: Ask for the highest floor possible. As others have said, the tube runs under the building and can d...

Pros: spacious, clean, helpful reception, close to subway, and a overall relaxing stay.
Cons: a weird smell in the restroom and subway noise. Subways stop after 12 I believe though. But not that bad. I would definitely stay there again.

I stayed at Marlin with wife and two kids for 16 days. London can be a difficult city if you going for a long time with all the family. Marlin Apartments are a great option, certainly MUCH better than any hotel. Family-type accommodation and location were the main reasons for our stay here and Marlin beat our expectations. We stayed in 4th floor with a full kitchen, deck, and all what you needs for a long stay. Location is close to everything and it's hard to beat for a business/leasure trip.

Any downsides to consider? Sure ... Tube is right below and it can get noisy. My wife had some troubles sleeping but hear plugs and a lot of walking during the day did some magic. Plus, you would hear the tube anywhere around this area so it's not a Marlin-specific problem. It's something you must consider before booking.
As other hotels, they will charge you for early checking and later check out. Not surprise there. But they charged us for a baby crib and in most place you won't pay for that. Free wireless internet is also pretty bad and unreliable. They have a pay service but this is an area for improvement. Consider it if you are traveling on business and need decent internet to get some work done. Cleaning is done every week but a bit more frequency won't hurt!

Room Tip: call in advance if you need to request additional services (baby crib, higher floor, etc)

This was 'home' for a couple of weeks in February 2013. A very well maintained, well furnished and ideally located service apartment.
What was great:
• Close proximity to Bank Station (Central Line) and Mansion House (Circle and District Lines).
• Close to the Thames, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Millennium Bridge, The Tate
• Excellent climate control within the apartment
• Good security arrangements, access card entry, CCTV etc
• Good furnishing and lighting fixtures, felt classy
• Very helpful and polite concierge/ staff
• Free wifi
• Sufficient storage space
• Quite and private feeling despite a busy location
• Lots of eateries close by for those who prefer to order in
• Tesco and other convenience stores are very close too, you can walk home with your heavy bags in a matter of minutes. Some of them are open 24 hours for you milk, bread, sim cards and other needs
• Same goes for shoppers, good shopping options nearby
• Safe neighbourhood

What was not so great:
• The kitchen was under-stocked
• The dishwasher was not great, we tried all the settings but not once did it do the job well
• The washing machine leaked and our kitchen had occasional puddles
• Housekeeping, though very efficient and thorough was not as frequent as we would like it to be
• The wifi connection kept dropping for some reason
• The cable tv package hardly had any channels, we had to resort to you tube for our idiot-box cravings

All in all, a great experience. 2 thumbs up.

Room Tip: dont overpay for a room with a balcony during winters. it will be of no use.

a good sized flat with balcony, very clean (albeit slgihtly sterile) and professional service (unlike competitors such as Big Red London). Overall it is nice, and a sensible alternative to a hotel if you are staying as a couple for more than a few nights (with washing machine, fridge, dishwasher etc). The few negatives include: rumbling of the underground, tired matress, super complex heating system (probably designed to make you give up and put up with the cold), and a disconnected hot water tap for the bath (which I also suspect is a trick to help save on bills - call me paranoid!). That said, it's a nice place and we would stay again.
