We used to visit here once a month or more about 5 or 6 years ago and decided to visit last night as it was a birthday. I checked the menu out online and it looked reassuringly familiar, the prices had increased, perhaps by £3 or £4 pounds but reasoned that this was OK these days and the food was always so good, having never had a bad meal there before.
Unfortunately this visit was poor and the quality of the food unrecognisable. To be fair, out starters were great, really tasty and should, have been a good omen. This was not to be the case, none of our food was hot, oddly, I had a rare steak and this was the coldest of them all. The accompaniments were fine, just the main parts of each dish were cold. My steak was not seasoned at all which was also very disappointing and only confirmed the feeling that the meal had just been rushed and left on plates for the waiting staff to catch up.
Service was generally OK until desert. Our waitress had at this point disappeared completely, my sons hot pudding was bought to the table, he finished and then rest arrived, all bar my wife's Irish coffee, which then turned up after we had all finished.
We felt pretty disappointed in view of the increased prices, the time, money and occasion that was invested in the evening, to be let down by food served cold, un-seasoned food, and poor service.
Real shame as this used to be a real favourite, probably will not go again, there's a lot of competition and unfortunately this visit suggested complacency has set it. We went on past reputation, rather than hearing it was good still.
