If you are a lover of Indian food you will not be disappointed with the Gulshan. This award winning restaurant has undergone extensive refurbishment in recent times and the surroundings are both plush and comfortable. There is a separate bar upstairs, again very tastefully decorated, and you can order "Tapas-style" dishes to your table if you do not feel hungry enough for the main menu in the restaurant. The food at the Gulshan is Bangladeshi influenced, and the menu is extensive, all of our meals were cooked perfectly to our order, and the chicken dishes we had were prepared with fresh chicken and not the "rubbery-tasteless" frozen meat used in some restaurants. The staff are attentive, without being intrusive, and they are very polite and efficient. We didn't have to wait for drinks or to order our meals, and most importantly, we did not feel pressured to leave our table after we had finished our meals. The owner-head chef Mustapha is a joy to talk to, and he was happy to advise us on a very tasty selection from his menu.
The prices at the Gulshan are surprising, considering the surroundings and the quality of the food, and we expected to pay a lot more than we did. My tip would be to order from the set-menu selections. The set meals are excellent value, but beware that all courses served are big-portions and you will end up taking a doggy-bag home with you.
In all, we had an excellent night at the Gulshan. Good food, good atmosphere, and great prices. Booking is advisable at weekends as it gets very busy.
