Description: Upstairs in a former banana warehouse on Liverpool's famous Mathew Street, you will find Tea Parlour, an elegant English tearoom hidden inside the first floor of the View 2 Gallery. Delicious, home-made confectioneries take pride of place beside beautiful vintage china, crystal glasses and pressed white tablecloths. But the real star is the tea. Elegantly presented in individual glass teapots along with a timer, the emphasis is on taste. From black, green, white, oolong and tisanes, there is an ever changing menu of teas to enjoy from Rare Tea Company and Phom tea. On weekends, guests at Tea Parlour can relax and enjoy live piano as they sit and enjoy the beautiful and elegant setting, without airs or graces, that is Tea Parlour. Reservations on Saturdays are essential. Weekdays you can catch lucky with a last minute walk-in, but calling first is advised. The venue is not licensed, but guests are welcome to bring their own bottle of fizz. Corkage is just £2.50 For a 75 cl bottle between two guests. Making it a particular good choice for milestone birthdays and hen-do celebrations. Only steps away from Liverpool One, and just minutes from Albert Dock and the St George's quarter, Tea Parlour is a delightful surprise.

This place is beautiful. Genuinely feels like you're in the 1940s thanks to the classic decor and homely touches. Loved the crisp white tablecloths and vintage china teacups. Service was attentive but not in-your-face. Good selection of teas, sandwiches and cakes. A little pricey at £20 per head but it's so much better than any other afternoon tea I've been to in the city centre.

The owner is very charming, and this hidden treasure of a tea room is clearly a labour of love, research and the love of afternoon tea.

Up beyond the bustle of internationally-recognised Mathew Street is this tearoom which transports you to a bygone day of Victorian charm.

We were lucky enough to be sat in the window with the balcony overlooking Mathew Street on a beautiful sunny Sunday.

A friendly greeting awaiting us, and a welcome refreshment of strawberry water was poured ad placed in between the exquisite china. This is afternoon tea, a treat, an experience, not slapping a few dodgy cakes on a cake stand in a corporate sterile hotel.

We were given menus and chose our individual teas, brewed in their own Perspex pots with a timer brought to the table. All added to the experience and fun.

Sandwiches were lovely and plentiful, with my veggie demands catered for despite me forgetting to arrange this in advance.

Scones were lovely, as were the cakes. At first glance I thought 'will there be enough for 3 of us?', but we left some, so the answer is yes.

We were offered more tea/ strawberry drink or food, nothing was too much trouble

A lovely venue for afternoon tea. The whole experience was delightful. I loved the setting, the china crockery, choice of leaf teas and of course the delicious sandwiches & cakes. I thoroughly recommend this hidden gem in Liverpool.
