We stayed for a birthday treat, one night, mid Feb 2009..On the plus side:...Fab room, spacious, and split level Great location, being central to all the main attractions.

Negatives: Staff not particularly friendly, bar and restaurant both closed and had been since beginning of Jan for refurbishment. Booked a couple of days before and there was no mention of this at booking or on the website.Didn't really have a 'hotel' feel, more like an apartment reception.Biggest disappointment was 'breakfast'. Breakfast consisted of a couple of bowls of fruit, some hard bread rolls and two slices of dried up chorizo! Coffee was undrinkable, and waiting staff consisted of one young girl who stayed in the kitchen( along the corridor) and out of sight! Was really unimpressed with the level of service (if you can call it that) in general and definately would not visit again. Have stayed in Premier Inns and been better looked after!

We stayed one night just after Valentine weekend and after a little confusion over our booking which they did not have we were found a room as they had some available and were upgraded to a larger room, this room had great huge windows looking over the town sqaure, and inside it was large with two huge chairs for lounging in, a flat screen tv DVD and MP3 facility. An added but I am sure not intentional bonus was a bottle of champagne and a Red Rose, this was lovely. The bathroom had a good shower and the complimentary Elemis products were very much appreciated. Large very comfortable bed and heating that could be turned off. Breakfast was continental served till 11.00 am yippee! I love being able to breakfast late. My husband and I will return as we didn't check out their restaurant or bar. Hotel is in great location parking they have a special rate at a nearby multistorey. Outside is metre parking.

Stayed here for one night on business back in July 08 and felt I must write a review to recommend the hotel to any potential travellers.

It is true the corridors were a little dimly lit but this was a very minor points on an overall very good stay. The room was spacious, with a seperate lounge area and it was furnished very stylishly and well stocked (flatscreen tv, ipod station, sweets, magazines, complimentary bottled water, good shower, etc;).

The restaurant served pretty good food at a respectable price, overeall I would highly recommend the hotel

We stayed for only one night at 62 Castle Street. The hotel was charming a beautiful, very unique. We had a great room, super large and I think we were upgraded, although if so, we weren't told.

The location was perfect, central to shopping and the pubs, and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere for a pre-dinner drink.

Only downsides were the very bad parking location, and that there was no concierge assisting with luggage for either our arrival or departure. Also, the room could have been a bit cleaner, it was almost like it hadn't been used in a while, but the building is in an old heritage building, and so dust is most likely unavoidable.

Overall though, I would recommend this hotel for value for money, location and atmosphere.

We hired the Lord Derby meeting room for work and several of my collegues also stayed at the hotel for the night.

The bedrooms were amazing and everyone loved staying there. The rooms were absolutely huge and had been done up very nicely. There were also internet connections. Breakfast was fine with cooked options as well as cereals.

As a meeting venue however I'd definately give it a miss and go to the Foresight Centre at the university instead which is excellent - very professional and slick service - although it's in a grubby part of town.

Booking the 62 Castle Street meeting room and bedrooms was a nightmare (involving several phone calls and a lot of e-mail correspondence - I had to chase them up repeatedly). The bed rooms and the meeting rooms are organised by two different systems (one in Liverpool one in London) so I couldn't book everything in one go. Also they wanted complete payment upfront before they would reserve anything. It came off very cowboy.

On arrival at the venue no one took us up to the meeting room to show us around the facilities (i.e. how to deal with the lighting, big screen (no projector - the computers are connected straight into a big telly which makes you a bit dizzy if you sit too close to it -i.e. sitting at the table), temperature, fire escapes, toilets etc). The table was filthy with cheesy melted crumbs, oil from food etc (although they were very quick to clean it up when I pointed it out). There was no wifi and only ONE internet connection cable in the room. All the cables were chaotic and just shoved behind the big screen. It looked really unprofessional. The receptionist also didn't know how anything worked and had to ring up a collegue who was on her day off to find out how to plug stuff in. The lunches were a running joke. Two days of chips and mini burgers on cocktail sticks! It didn't occur to me until afterwards that I hadn't been offered any vegetarian options either. With hindsight I would have taken everyone to Simply Heathcotes which is just around the corner.

Although the staff were nice, they weren't very effective and they just didn't seem to anticipate things like everyone needing internet connections or putting any out any drinks with lunch.

As a hotel it's lovely, in a great position and with good rooms. As a meeting venue, run away!

We visited Liverpool as a birthday treat to my partner. We had a 2 night stay in 62 Castle Street. The hotel was impressive on arrival and I liked the little sweets in nice oversized glass bowls dotted around the hotel. Reception was casual, but they were helpful and they suggested a fab thai around the corner for dinner that evening.

Our room was huge, on the top floor it was really impressive on entrance. The bed was big and comfy. The bathroom looked good but there was no shower gel and the shower head was very low, not really suitable for anyone over 5ft 5!

We had drinks in the hotel bar before going out, it's a nazzy place, chairs a bit uncomfortable but it's a place to be beautiful not lounge!

We had breakfast included, on the 1st morning there we were slightly hungover, so were the 2 waiters. The breakfast wasn't nice, and the 2 lads were really not up to anything. The second morning was totally different, the brekkie was lovely, the girl serving was professional and had the whole place uncontrol.

We like the hotel a lot, it was so central. We will go back. The owners of the hotel need to employ professionals not casual staff. It didn't bother us as we were in and out of the hotel on the go but it did lack someone taking owership of the place.

Worth a visit!

  • Liked — It looked nice, not too busy either. I prefer smaller hotels.
  • Disliked — Lack of control of the staff.

Checking into the hotel I was struck by the garrish displays of wrapped boiled sweets. They look horrible and let the hotel down. It doesn't reall scream boutique hotel...!

The receptionist was friendly enough though her hairstyle and presentation was a little odd! We were given keys to a room on the 2nd floor. I was disappointed that the room was not very clean (lots of dust), plus the windows were filthy and would not close properly; the frames were rotten and clearly needed replacing.

Reluctantly (as most Brits!!) we told the receptionist that we were not happy and were moved to a larger room on the 3rd floor.

This seemed better on inital inspection, so we unpacked. The windows here were metal frame and did close, but were also absolutey filthy. It was a disgrace and I really should have complained as this room and the view (which is of the queen victoria memorial and both cathedrals -if you look from a slight angle) should be the jewel in the hotels crown, but is let own by very poor housekeeping.

The bathroom looked good but upon spending time there using the facilities it was clear that it had been done cheaply (eg plastic bath with poor sealant, pathetic shower pressure). Towels and robes were also of a poor quality; rough and well worn.

As previous guests mentioned the bed platform (wooden with sharp edges) is a trip hazard . Both partner and I have the scars to prove it. The duvet of the bed hangs over disguisig the sharp edges and when walking past it is difficult to avoid bashing your shins!! OWWW! The hotel should really address this. GRR!

We had preapid for breakfast as an extra (£10 per person)
We had it served in our room as another guest was dramatically taken ill in the restaurant! It was terrible. Low quality bacon and all items almost cold. At least the waitress (an young aussie girl) was very polite and enthusiastic!

Usually prefer small hotels but next time will be staying at one of the big names like Radisson or Crowne Plaza where housekeeping is done with care.

  • Liked — Sheets and comfy bed
  • Disliked — Dirty windows!
