“Overpriced and disappointing - no boutique here!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

There was nothing 'wrong' with this hotel as such, it's just completely overpriced and most definitely not boutique standard hotel. We left feeling disappointed and that we could have got much better elsewhere. And it was for our one year anniversary :-(

Pros:
*Comfy bed, pillows, duvet
*Big luxury towels
*Nice shower (although far too low for anyone with height!)

Cons:
*The general finish of the room wasn't good enough- major scratches in desks, floor, unfinished walls where holes had been filled and tired looking furniture
*Room was WAY too dark (which was ridiculous for getting ready!)
*Rooms on front of hotel are noisy as it's right near bus depot and stands etc.
*Breakfast was budget not boutique- self serve drinks/toast etc... With cheap bread and juice and a token tired looking fruit bowl. No freshly made tea or coffee served -again all self serve
*Bar/restaurant area also very dark - black carpet, dark curtains, dark furniture - it's a stunning building but all that dark makes it miserable. Felt like night time eating our breakfast!

Apart from bed, shower and towels -everything else you could get in a budget hotel for half the price. Would not stay again or recommend I'm afraid.

Many thanks for your constructive feedback.

I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed with the experience. We will look into your feedback regarding breakfast, as a team we aim to ensure all our guests are more than satisfied & that we are providing a full boutique experience.

We are currently reviewing the lighting in all our boutique rooms to ensure it is perfect for all guests.

We do hope you will visit us again soon, congratulations on your 1 year anniversary from the whole team!

I booked 62 Castle Street for a long weekend on the promise of a swanky and swish boutique hotel. Location was exceptional. The room (204) was large and grand, with a fantastic perspective from huge windows - lovely. The bed was really comfortable. Staff were perfectly polite but, for the price, the room didn't quite live up to what I would call 'boutique' hotel status, lacking soul and detail. No WiFi, wobbly loo seat, no shelf in the shower, poor toiletries, tiring paintwork and no lighting where it was needed (coffee-making shelf, wardrobe). Website photographs have been dressed a little. Nearly there - just not quite.

Stayed here 14/02 with my girlfriend. The staff all seemed friendly but only spoke to the front desk whilst checking in/out. The room was nice but as I say they are on the small side, and they are not very well lit. We had to bring a standing lamp from the other side of the room so my girlfriend could see in the mirror. As you have probably seen in other reviews the shower head is on the low side. I am only 5' 7" and i had to duck a little to be able to stand under and also the temperature fluctuated quite a bit, the iron/ironing board we not practical at all, about 1 foot long and as it extended out of a draw it was really awkward to use but not a big deal. The bed was a little on the short side as well, even for me. Aside from a few scuffs on the table and walls everything else was fine (not that I minded about a few scuffs) Would recommend To staying here though, Nice pleasant hotel.

Just spent 2 days at 62 castle street. We stayed in room 307 which was lovely. Previous reviews stated that they found rooms dark and showers too low, I would have to agree with that. The rooms are lit by lamps which were great but more light is needed for us ladies to do our hair!!!. The bed was extremely comfortable with lovely linen. Even though we went in february, we found that we had to put the air conditioning on at night as the room was too hot. All the staff were helpful especially the ladies on reception. Disappointed that the bar wasn't opened in the evening but there were lots of bars around the area for it not to be a problem. The hotel is in an excellent position for shopping or sight seeing, Liverpool One is no more then 5 minutes walk away and the water front is no more than 10. The hotel was recommended to us by family and we wouldn't hesitate to recomment it to others.

We have just come back from spending one night @ 62 Castle Street for my wifes birthday.
We stayed in room 301 which was a great size, the beds was the biggest bed ever and it even had a seperate living space. The only complaint if i can call it a complaint was the room was very poorly lit.
Staff were very helpful upon checking in. Worth a stay as its located very close to the city centre bars,Liverpool One shopping..

Room Tip: If avalible choose room 301, a great size room...

We checked in at about 7pm on 25th January and as I was on crutches with my leg clearly in plaster I did expect to be shown up to our room and not merely pointed in the vague direction of.
Once in the room I was initially quite impressed, it was spacious with a lovely big bed and nice white linen, sofa in front of a big TV, table and chairs. However, in the bathroom after having clearly stated on the hotel website there where no " Elemis" bath and shower products, rather, cheap everyday alternatives, no bathrobes or slippers which you would find in any Holiday Inn!
Anyway we tried to call reception to book a table for dinner only for there to be no answer, after several attempts we gave up and ventured downstairs to be told the restaurant was closed, this was only 9.45pm, the waitress did seat us after speaking with the chef, the menu was presented, fish and chips, steak and chips, chicken and chips! Hardly boutique hotel standard food. We were then told last orders for drinks would be taken at 10.50pm! With no room service available I felt slightly cheated out of a full evening experience. Because of said plastered leg I ended up spending the rest of the evening in front of the TV instead of a nice hotel bar!
Super comfy bed, went down for breakfast, small choice of cereals, yoghurt etc but waited an age to order a cooked breakfast which was just OK. All in all this hotel is a fair way from boutique, probably won't stay again.

I am thrilled you enjoyed our rooms - we have to agree, our beds are extremely comfortable! Our suppliers differ, so I'm afraid on this occasion there was no Elemis, however the Priay range does come highly recommended.

Our last orders at the bar are at 11pm, however, we are more than happy for our guests to take drinks back to their rooms. We are in the midst of reviewing & reinventing our menus as a hotel, so it would be our pleasure to invite you back to sample our new & exciting seasonal menus.

We hope your leg is on the mend & we look forward to inviting you back again soon.

Best wishes,

We stayed for 1 night, mid week which was a mix of business and pleasure. We found the staff to to be friendly and helpful. Our room was magnificent and decorated to a very high standard, our only critisim would be the sink is set very low as were the taps on the bath, but overall very impressive. Our stay included Breakfast which was ok but nothing spectactular, we got the impression that not many people actually had breakfast as we were the only ones eating and they had to set the table. We intend to visit Liverpool again for a weekend and would not hesistate to book 62 Castle Street.
