My girlfriend and I stayed at 62 Castle Street, last Sunday, following a family wedding the day before. We arrived at midday hoping we could store our bags for a couple of hours before check-in at 2pm. We were greeted by the very helpful receptionist who told us our room was already ready for us. The room itself was huge and very individual with quirky features abound. The bathroom was large and spotlessly clean throughout.

As others have commented, the room is a little on the dark side, but this is down to the small windows and close proximity to the next building. Being a Grade II listed building, I doubt there's anything they can do about that. A few of the lights weren't working in the room, but a quick word with reception and they were rectified in no time at all.

The location of the hotel couldn't be better, right in the middle of the city centre and within walking distance of the fantastic Liverpool One shopping centre. All of Liverpool's other attractions are also in walking distance from the hotel.

I am an exiled scouser, but this was my girlfriend's first trip to Liverpool. She left with a love of city and an amazement of how warm the people are.

I would recommend 62 Castle Street to anyone.

Booked via Secret Escapes, received good informative email correspondence leading up to the stay from the hotel. Great sized room, fabulous comfy bed, all mod cons available. Hotel is situated in a superb location for shopping and dining out. Evening meal in the Merchants restaurant, booked for 8.30pm, ordered the scallops and salmon main meal, but this was not available, overall the food was very good, but the service was extremely slow, and the dining room was not full.

We would return as we feel it was great value for money, clean, comfortable room and pleasant staff.

We booked via Mr & Mrs Smith (always excellent service) who describe 62 Castle St at budget boutique and I think that is a good description.
Check in/check out easy.
Rooms are individual and huge. Many have split levels which adds a bit of wow. High ceilings. Thoughtful lighting. We had a corner room overlooking the law courts and you can open the huge doors and step out onto the small balcony.
The bathroom has the right idea, but the quality of the workmanship is poor - I would not employ their plumber to renovate my bathroom!
For breakfast the dining room is an impressive space but lacks atmosphere. Breakfast staff were characterless. What was described as a breakfast buffet was actually really disappointing - Premier Inn do a better breakfast. Bog standard cereal, sliced bread and very few pastries. No sign of the bagels and muffins described on the menu. Instead we had eggs benedict which were really good.
I would stay again because of the individual character of the place.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the corner rooms

We have to agree with you when it comes to our ornate and decadent character – it is a brilliant talking point! All maintenance issues are being addressed and we do hope to welcome you back on your next visit to Liverpool.

Hotel and room were tired. Decor needs updating and smartening up. Room was large but very dark and cold. Dirty fingerprints on panel above shower. Dinner plate sized shower head was too low for my 5'8 height. Light above sink not working until second evening thus making make up application hard. Holes in wall where toilet roll holder should have been. No lights in wardrobe area at all. Bathrobe would be a nice addition. Expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: Unable to comment on other rooms. Adjoining bar and restaurant not very busy.

Excellent individual hotel, Master Suites are large and very comfortable. Friendly and helpful staff. Good central location in a character building. I use a lot of 'branded' hotels and this was a very welcome change, I will certainly use again.

We stayed in a suite room and it was beautiful. Nice and clean, nice receptionist and lovely location. Was very pleased with the value for money. The bathroom was also a lovely size. The bedding was nice clean and fresh the tv and sofa was a extra added bonus. It wasnt a noisy room which i was quite suprised with considering it is on a busy road the restaurant being downstairs was very handy.

Room Tip: Lovely for romantic breaks

Stayed here for a Beatles weekend. Was impressed with the staff who were very helpful when we arrived. The room was just amazing and so comfortable, apart from the lighting it was quite dark which made it difficult to do hair and makeup. But the who room was just so relaxing!

Excellent location for sight seeing and would stay again!

Only one disappointment which was on the morning we left, we went down to breakfast, was offered the main menu by one member of staff, then told by another member that we had to have the full english and could not have anythign else from the main menu, we were not told why but it was mentioned that some items they had run out of.

We then realised that we had not been asked what type eggs we wanted, or if we were even vegetarian and then had to try and find staff to ask them about this and to ask to put the toaster on as this was swtiched off, the member of staff i spoke to just tutted and made me feel like i had inconvienienced them.

On asking them why we could not pick from the main menu we were told that the delivery had not arrived and had we come down later we may have been ok?? but we had a train to catch? We were also told that people were coming in at all hours of the morning so they did not expect anyone so early, so we felt pretty in the way.

I did not enjoy the breakfast that morning, i did not want the full breakfast and found it hard to understand if there was no delivery, that we still managed to have a FULL breakfast! everything else on the menu included one of these items, apart from the eggs benedict.

So apart from this our stay there was brilliant and we will return, but we were just disapointed at the attitude of the member of staff and that due to us having to get an early train home we were penilised for this with the breakfast choice. Maybe something that needs to be addressed in future. But we will defo be back!
