I have to say that I've been going to FACT for about 7 years and Picturehouse is always a great experience. The staff of picturehouse are friendly, real people that serve some of Liverpool's most pretentious and ridiculous people. I've heard some outrageous requests from people in the building and couldn't blame the staff for occasionally seeming a little hacked off - I would be.
The building is always clean, friendly, inviting and offers a full range of visual experiences.
I preferred the cafe when it was less corporate, had a varied perosnal touch to its menu and didn't play the same droll music but they seem to get on with what they have and good on them.
I think visitors to FACT need to take remember that the staff are dealing with arty folk - never easy - cut them a break, they're open 12 hours a day and work hard to keep give us another option to the odeon.

I love the Fact. Always have. Love the Fact in that it shows films you can't see anywhere else. Has great exhibitions, an exhilarating artistic vibe, live screening of West End theatre.
You feel like you've arrived at a little cultural oasis until....you encounter the staff.
Is there like a special criteria to work there?
Do they have to attend the special arm folding module?
This is what you are greeted with at the box office ( and this is not a one off, I've been attending for years ).
It's like running the gauntlet of a lot of angry adolescents.
They all but throw their heads back and huff " Oh for God's sake you're so embarrassing" regardless of what show you're going to see.
What's worse some of them have not seen adolescence for donkeys years but still " they're working in culture innit?" And don't you forget it.
May I suggest your management visit the Light Cinema in New Brighton and see how it's done?
It's quite easy. Smile. How may I help you?. Take the money. Enjoy your film. Smile again. Next?
And remember sneering bearded ( or not ) black t shirted, angry tattooed armed ( or not ) staff.
Like it or not you are here to serve the public and the public is what pays the rent on your bedsit.

Part of the Picturehouse chain, FACT screens a mix of arthouse, cult & box office hits. Joining their membership scheme enititles you to benefits at other cinemas such as the Ritzy in Brixton, SW London. Seats are comfier than your average cinema. The cafe bar serves good coffee, but I had a late lunch there & I wasn't too well after it - vegetarian chili in case you need to know. Sadly, the book shop where you used to be able to get \ wide range of books & mags for movie buffs is no more - not profit making according to a member of staff. Having said that, I always head to FACT when I arrive in Liverpool.
Good disability facilities, RADAR key loo but ask staff if you don't have a key.

I've been going to FACT since it 1st opened. I love the selection of films, although it has gone a little too mainstream for me lately. I like mainstream but I can see that anywhere.

I am a member, you get 3 free tickets every time you renew membership & discounts in Fact (10%) & elsewhere and the reward points are good, use them to buy tickets or drinks & snacks (even in the bar). There are special screenings for Autistic children, OAP's, those with babies & a Kid's club. There are also free members screenings, sign up for the newsletter, they're usually screened on a Sunday at 11am (good excuse to grab a breakfast before or lunch after, there or near by). You don't have to be a member to collect points, just pick up a reward card. Gift-cards can be bought and topped up at anytime. They also participate in Orange Wednesdays offer.

The bar is great, fair price and they'll put your drink in plastic cup to take in to a movie.
The Box Office can be slow & majority staff not that competent but you can book online & get an e-ticket (they will scan your mobile/tablet screen to save printing out too).
The 2nd floor has main screen rooms (seats are comfy, recline a little and good legroom) & shop with sweets, popcorn, soft drinks etc also sell tickets, but can also be slow servers.
The Box (ground floor) is a small screen room with 2 seater sofas, comfy and a bit different.
The cafe is so slow but nice enough food. There are some ready made things to grab which is quicker, but I'd avoid it if you're in a hurry. Coffee is good and cakes look nice but i haven't tried them yet. It good if you have time on your hands or it can also be used as a laid back work space with a few people taking advantage of the wifi & someone else making your coffee.
Fact hold lots of events & has Art showing in the Galleries & around the ground floor.
Toilets are on 1st and ground floor, are clean and there are plenty of cubicles in the ladies so no queuing.

FACT is one of my favourite places in Liverpool. The Picturehouse cinema shows a great combination of blockbusters and independent films and the membership deal is fantastic and saves me a fortune. The cinema audience is always quiet, and polite (no nattering teenagers or loud crunchers!), the seats are very comfortable and the sound and projection great. The bar has a lovely laid back vibe and it is nice being able to take a drink into the cinema. The exhibitions are varied - some great, some not so (but suppose that is the thing with modern multimedia art it is very subjective!) The only slightly unexciting bit is the cafe which has gone downhill in the last 18months. I now only really go there for takeout coffee to take into a film, which is a pity as it used to be brilliant.

I won't go to any other cinema in Liverpool as they are so noisy, crowded, expensive, uncomfortable and unfriendly! Lets hope FACT stays as good now Cineworld have taken over Picturehouse.
