My wife and i stayed here for our anniversary on 21st August, I'd booked this hotel after months of deliberation over whether to go for this one, The hard Days night or the novotel, but chose this as it gets mentioned so often in top 10 boutique hotel lists and also features in the Mr & Mrs Smith guide books.

It was a great choice. The hotel is beautifully designed, exposed wood and brick work, leather sofa's enormous beds with thick sheets and an open wet room/shower in the bathroom (king Deluxe room).

If you are looking for something individual and stylish then this is the one to go for. As well as looking great the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful which isn't just coincidence, i think the owners push this as one of their USP's. The breakfast in the adjoining 'London Carriage Works' is also excellent, a real top quality fry up. We didn't have an evening meal there as we chose to eat out otherwise you feel like you are stuck in the same place too long.

The only thing I would mention is the under floor heating, I couldn't work out how to turn this off, - admittedly I should have asked, however the heat was overpowering and we woke up really dehydrated even with the windows open.

Some useful tips - there is a car park around the corner (a side road opposite the Everyman Theatre) which is half the price of the hotels car park - £5 per day. If you are staying in the summer then they have a 'giddy summer' offer of 2 nights accommodation, an upgraded room, champagne in the room and breakfast both days for just £188. which bearing in mind a normal night rate for a standard room is £140 then this is a bargain. They also operate an 'on the day' rate meaning that if you fancy an impromptu stay then call them for a bargain price.

Other recommendations would be -

'Host' which is a restaurant opposite the hotel serving, japanese/Indonesian/chinese fare is excellent, very laid back very cheap (tenner each) and very tasty for a quick meal.

Panoramic - go here for a drink, no really do, its incredible, its on the 34th floor of a tower block over looking the docks and the views are just amazing. Its a restaurant and bar but i'd heard that the food can be a let down so just went for drinks. You will need to dress up and also have to book (even just for drinks) but it really is utterly brilliant to watch the sunset and have a cocktail.

Alma De Cuba - big let down. Its a nice enough bar but we went to see the petal display at 11pm and it turned out to be just a girl with a bucket stood on the balcony.

All in all Liverpool is a great choice for a city break and if you stay at the Hope Street Hotel you won't regret it.

Surprised to see this hotel at #13- we stayed here for 2 nights in June and had dinner and breakfast in the Carriage works downstairs-bedrooms very comfy; bathrooms nice, big and airy with nice amenities; dinner was one of our best meals on 2 week trip around England; hotel and restaurant staff couteous and helpful; highly recommended

We stayed overnight (surprise birthday treat organised by my partner) and were happy with our room - immaculately clean and spacious and peaceful, lovely stylish decor/furnishings/clever lighting -classic modern/minimalist theme and very comfy bed. It seemed from the surroundings and hotel guide in room that the hotel prided itself on "attention to detail" for customers. However when we rang to request a fan as the day was warm and our room a bit hot - this was surprisingly not available (although on the list of optional "on request " extras) - it was the same story again when we requested a specific DVD from the optional in room entertainment list (it had been "lost" - but the piece de resistance was when we went down for dinner at 19.30 and on placing our order we were told by our waitress that the hotel had completely run out of chunky chips and any form of potato which could be served with either fish or steak apart from mash!!!! We decide to pass on her suggested alternatives of bean mash/ragout and went round the corner to a lovely little french bistro bar - seems like someone in management has taken their eye off the ball ever so slightly which really lets down the very nice staff !!!!

I stayed at Hope Street expecting a great experience; unfortunately that wasn't the case. Our bathroom was lovely but the bedroom was quite bland and uninspired, like other parts of the hotel. We were meant to have champagne in the room on our first night but that didn't arrive. When I mentioned this the next morning at breakfast the receptionist apologised and promised it would be in the room late afternoon for when we returned from our day out. Needless to say it didn't arrive then either.

We were also told on our first morning that we were on a "room only" rate meaning that breakfast would be chargeable....and beware it is a VERY expensive breakfast!. After checking later on we found out that we should have had breakfast included after all as we were on a B&B rate! The bill was amended accordingly but it just uncovered more poor service.

On a positive note, we ate at The London Carriage Works (the hotel's restaurant) on one night and had FANTASTIC service from Lisa. This was the only saving grace as far as I was concerned but I wouldn't go back.

This was my first trip to Liverpool, taking a side trip from business in Scotland. I'd known little of Liverpool, beyond the Beatles, European Cultural Capital designation, and that one of my forbears hailed from the city. Having digested a bit of the city, I now understand why there are no 5 start hotels, basically because 4 stars appears to be good enough, and 5 stars might be trying to appear uppity and posh. That said, unless you want to feel like you're sleeping in Akron, Ohio, I'd avoid the Staybridge Suites, Hilton, Radisson, Holiday Inn, etc, and go off track to the Hope Street Hotel (and/or Hard Days Night, also reviewed on this trip). My take on Liverpudlians is what is broadcast: very helpful, friendly, conversational and warm. All true from all staff at the Hope Street. Meals taken at the Carriage House were quite good, both dinner and breakfast (thank you for offering vegetarian blood pudding, and I'm not even vegetarian). But I would caution others from avoiding my mistake, unless they are parents of university graduates. I hit Liverpool in the midst of graduation week, so I was treated to unending streams of gowned graduates being photographed and feted by adoring family. Good for all of them and congrats, but it made this part of the city quite congested with dealing with it all and the hotel was close to overwhelmed by demands of the participants. I'd asked for a quite room, based on prior reviews, and got what I asked for, a ground floor overlooking the broken windows and trash of the apparent warehouse facade out back. The king bed overwhelmed the available space (to the point of having to turn luggage sideways to get it in), and if one wished to sit in a proper chair, forget it, as there was no room for one. So the room gets a minimal grade, but the bathroom was very nice indeed, but for the excessively stylish lighting system (no switch, hand movement controlled) which resulted in no ability to see yourself in the mirror. However, the shower made up for all that. So, maybe Conde stayed here in off season and got herself a fab suite. I was on my own dime, in the student high season, and got an acceptable experience. Might try it again.

This was a great hotel; I was there on business, which actually says a lot because we were put up here by the company. The rooms were spacious & the staff extremely helpful & friendly. Many of the rooms are brand new, so everything was nice, new & very comfortable. No problems at all!

We booked a last minute secret deal through Late Rooms and were very pleased to find that our hotel was the Hope Street Hotel as we had read the good reviews on Trip Advisor.
On arrival the hotel looked lovely and the reception staff were very helpful and friendly. We arrived at about 12noon and they did check to see if our room was ready but it wasn’t so we just left our luggage. The hotel has a secure car park just across the road which cost £10 for overnight which for city centre parking isn’t bad.
The hotel is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the main attractions like Liverpool One and the Albert Dock but there are also some nice restaurants and bars in the nearby area.
Our room was lovely, very clean and comfortable, the bed was very cosy. Our room over looked Hope Street and as the room has no air con being an older building we had to sleep with the windows open which at some points during the night was a bit noisy. The bar area of the hotel was lovely with great service. We didn’t eat our evening meal in the hotel but if we went back that I think we would choose to dine there as it looked and smelt lovely.
Breakfast in the morning was excellent value at £10 each and was huge and also plenty of choice for continental.
We would definitely go back as we found this to be a wonderful hotel for a relaxed and romantic stay with friendly and helpful staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
