“Dirty - Stayed 3 nights and never had the shower-room or bedroom cleaned”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Stayed in 3 bed dorm for 3 consecutive nights and we didn't manage to get our shower-room or bedroom cleaned, despite asking.

Very poor noise insulation, you can hear any chatting, even in a low voice, from the rooms next door.

Metal bunk beds do creek at any slight movement.

Communal kitchen looks like a cellar, as it does not have windows, so didn't bother having food there.

I stayed at the International Inn on a hen do during the Grand National Weekend. Having not read up on the hostel before, I was pleasantly surprised on arrival to find our 6-bed room had an en-suite bathroom of a decent size and the overall cleanliness of the place.

It did go downhill from there, however. Upon returning from a night out we were unable to enter our room using the keycards we were given. After asking at reception why they were not working, we were told the door needed fixing and they would let us in. It was not fixed the next day and I found it quite worrying that all you had to do to be let into one of the room was just tell reception you lost your key.

The other issue was the noise. On Grand National weekend, you expect to hear people up and down the corridors, but it was the noise in our own room that was the issue. The metal bunk beds were really poorly put together and so noisy that the smallest movement made a huge creek and when all six of us rolled over at the same time it was loud enough to wake you up.

The staff were really friendly, some members of our party had really nice rooms and you can't fault the price considering the date. For me the lack of being able to get a decent night's sleep means I would not recommend the International Inn; unless you plan on having such a big night out that you just pass out in your bed, in which case you're probably fine!

I stayed in a standard double for two nights, on a very cold weekend in March. Reading previous reviews i was expecting the worst and anything better would be a bonus.
First impressions weren't great as my room wasn't ready at the designated time. I was told it would be an hour, which wasn't a major issue as one of the great pubs of the north west, The Philharmonic, was two minutes round the corner.
Once in my room, i was pleasantly surprised. Everywhere was clean, room was big enough and more importantly, the heating and hot shower worked. Result!
I didn't have an issue with noise at night, and wasn't charged any up front cost for insurance purposes.
All in all, i'd stay here again. It's 10 minutes walk downhill to town and 20 minutes to the docks & Mathew St.

I've used this several times now. I don't need views or service I'm just there for the footy, so it's perfect location, clean, and good bathroom. No windows at all, so not good for claustrophobia!
Great bars nearby, WYSIWYG ..
Great value!

This place was not great, but not terrible; average We stayed in a twin room, which was small (although, I don't expect more in a hostel) and also fairly noisy since it faced onto the street. The towel rack was broken and the shower was tiny. There is nothing wrong with this room if you don't mind a couple of minor things - these things didn't phase me, just warning others incase these are important to you. The staff were helpful and we ate at both the cafe next door and the pub just on the corner for breakfast - both were good and cheap, but I would prefer the pub. A couple of pounds for a big breakfast. It is in a good location, quite close to everything, including the train station. We walked everywhere. I noticed that the corridoors in the hostel were quite dirty, and I thought that they were still in the process of cleaning them - but they were still dirty the following day. The room itself was clean though. I thought the communal kitchen was great - good facilities (oven, kettles, stove, toaster etc) and always spotless. And free toast! Plenty of crockery too.
