Owner description: Situated in the Cavern Quarter at the heart of the city. Liverpool's most famous street not only houses the Cavern Club but numerous references and connections to the "four lads who shook the world" and Liverpool's long musical heritage. There's shopping, bars and pubs, and come summer weekends the street is packed with partying locals and tourists.

Great for the Matthew Street Festival, but I could find better places to shop. Nice to walk along it.

“Imagination Essential”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

40 years after the Beatles first single and 29 years after the Cavern Club closed the area may have changed in many ways but some elements remain. If you close your eyes and listen very carefully you might just catch an echo of Mathew Street as it was in the 1960s.

“Where it All Started - Great Atmosphere!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2012

Mathew Street is framed at its start and end, by "Cavern Quarter" signs, reminding you where everything began for the Beatles in Liverpool. It is a lovely place, full of colour, light and live music. There are Beatle memorabilia and souvinir shops and of course, the Cavern. There are also The Grapes and The White Star which have strong beatle connections and some lovely old pictures. There is also Lennon's Bar and A Hard Day's Shop and Hotel. Against the backdrop of the Beatle connections, there are some colourful modern bars where people are inviting you in to try the newest offer! The place has a brilliant atmosphere day and night and don't miss the bronze of John Lennon opposite the Cavern and look for all the art work. The only thing is Friday and Saturday nights can be busy and the places crowded but to me, it is as nice in the day and ironically gives a good impression of what the Cavern and Mathew Street must have been like in the Beatles time Don't forget your cameras and enjoy!
