We visited the Academy on a Friday night as a party of four, two couples all aged approximately sixty, one of us being an ex-college principal.
We didn't get off to a very good start as despite walking right round the block we could not locate the restaurant. We had to ring up and a waitress very helpfully came out and found us. We had the impression this was not an uncommon occurrence - Tradewinds Square is located through a narrow gap off Duke Street between two other restaurants, marked East Village Private Estate. Some better directions on the restaurant's web site would have helped us.
However, having arrived, we were made to feel welcome. The service was attentive and pleasant. We had a bit of confusion over the vegetarian options on what was a new menu but the waiter very calmly sorted out this out for us. There was good supervision of the students all evening. The pace of the meal was about right.
The ambience was good, the building is recently built to good quality restaurant standard and, a big plus point for me, no musak!
The meal itself was very good indeed, well cooked with good ingredients, including chicken, polenta, and rice pudding. There was a good choice of vegetarian options. The house red wine was good also.
Overall, very good value for money and somewhere we would all be very happy to return to if in the area.
