In an unlikely setting tucked away at the end of one of Liverpool Airport's runways.
An interesting mix of styles, with a Jacobean house renovated in the 19th century so that William Morris papers and fabrics appear throughout.
Friendly volunteers, good food in the café and interesting views from one of the walks in the grounds - clearly marked on the map provided on admission.

We went during the summer holidays. It is not cheap if you have a big family and you should take a picnic. The place is a little dusty but is still fun for a look at history. Whatever anyone tells you, there are def no ghosts , sorry!

A beautifully restored home. The visit was made all the more enjoyable by the volunteers who were a mine of information. If you've got the time then call in to Dobbies garden centre not far from the entrance to Speke Hall - the butchers and bakers have some really great quality produce for sale.

The contrast of Tudor v Victorian is awesome. Not a big house by any means but each room is a fantastic treasure trove. Original Morris wallpaper, Tudor masonry and the most delightful ladies Victorian room ever.
The guides were brilliant with insight and enthusiasm. It was fabulous.

The wet nelly in the tea room was totally scrummy too!
