“Breaking the code of silence”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

I went to visit the recent exhibition titled, Breaking the code of Silence, about a photographer named Letizia Battaglia, who had taken photos in the seventies and eighties on the Sicilian mafia.
The exhibition was very well laid out and the pictures were really moving and gave a real visual look into what it must have been like during that period.
The staff were excellent and it is good to have facilities available to the public to get this sort of message over.
If you go please donate as the entrance is free and much better than some |I have paid admission for.

“i wouldnt go back”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

I stumbled by this place while on a trip to Liverpool, seeing it was free entry myself and my partner went on in to have a look. its a small enough museum based photography down stairs is mostly warehouse type based photos. but I have to say venturing upstairs made myself and my partner extremely uncomfortable, there is a parental guidance sign but I was expecting maybe some classey kind of nudity but instead I felt like the pictures where just plain porn and not any good stuff. how people can look at the pictures they are showing in a box room with other people in it was very disturbing and we left immediately. These where not photos youd put on display there was no talent class or radiance about them.

“Great gallery with amazing exhibitions and staff”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

Open Eye Gallery is one of my favourite spots in Liverpool - not only it is an aesthetically pleasant place to visit, but also a great venue to see top artists (both emerging and established).
All their exhibitions have helped me discover new photographers and strengthen my love for this medium.
The staff are amazing - so polite and helpful, and their shop is a little gem with lots of cute products and a good stock of analog film.
Highly recommended.

“Great location”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

Having been aware of this gallery for some years, I'd not visited it in its previous locations. Mann Island is very convenient for The Museum of Liverpool and the Pier Head attractions. I've now been twice.

Staff at the Open Eye Gallery are very friendly and informative, the displays are well-arranged, the tiny shop has interesting books for purchase and the toilets are very clean. Several refreshment places are nearby.

When I was last there, the gallery was 'taken over' by the images of a locally-born photo-journalist who'd lost his life during one of his assignments in a battle zone. The photographs and films were very poignant.

The gallery is always worth a visit when in Liverpool and I can recommend it to anyone with an interest in photography. There are exhibitions with local connections and photographers of lesser and greater repute, including international ones.
