Owner description: A former school tucked away in the city center. One of the oldest and most attractive buildings in Liverpool now plays host to contemporary art and performance displays. The rear secret garden is a tranquil, picturesque place to take a breather from the surrounding hubbub.

Bought a tomato/mozarella filled flatbreat which looked fair but contained a basil leaf two thin slices of tomato and possibly less mozarella £3.50 was a swienging price for such a meagre offer.

Before retiring, I would have my lunch here a couple of times a week. Over he years there have been many changes to the building a restaurant. The food was alway good and still is, but my favourite is the Carrot Cake!!! I like to visit and see the exhibitions and meet up with friends.

The Bluecoat Centre is an oasis of calm in the centre of bustling Liverpool with a lot of history and housed in one of the most attractive old buildings in the city. The courtyards are particularly appealing especially on a sunny day. Much of the interior is devoted to exhibition space which was very interesting but all too esoteric for my liking. The decor in the cafe on the first floor was superb but the service and food - oh dear! There were three members of staff but all "too busy" to serve customers. They seemed intent on seating us where they wanted us to be and not on the other side where all the sunlight was streaming through the windows. The food was overpriced for what it was and of poor quality. This centre is definitely worth a visit and a lovely diversion from all the retail madness nearby but would recommend that you restrict your refreshments to drinks only and buy your food in far better close-by establishments.

I love this place! Beautiful (haunted) building, courtyard garden which really is an oasis of calm in the city centre, art gallery with unusual and thought provoking displays, quirky craft shops and so much more. There is a cafe downstairs and a bistro upstairs. Child friendly, and great staff. Brill x
