“Friendly, well informed staff.”

We only had 45 mins before our train. The volunteer at the entrance asked about our interests and indicated the room featuring British art from 1890-1950. A wonderful exhibit of various art forms and movements within this period, very well set out and interesting.

“Many famous paintings, art books and a lovely cafe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2013

You'll recognise some of the paintings. The range of art books is different from the usual and there are other gifts to buy. The cafe sells good home-made soup, quiche etc. This makes a pleasant gap in a frenetic shopping trip.

“Very Enjoyable Visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2013

Vusited some time ago to see the Railway Exhibition and returned some months later to tour the rest of the building. Free admission and we were welcomed immediately on entry and offered free cloakroom for wet outer clothing. Coffee and bun reasonably priced. Amazed at the range of famous artists on display. Entries to modern art competiton were on show and an interesting contrast to the more orthodox collection. Recommended and well worth a visit.

“art”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

I had never been to an art gallery before and was by chance that I came to be in this one. I found it surprisingly enjoyable. Even though some of the exhibitions had been removed due to building work to the adjacent library there wa sstill so much to see. A very pleasant visit
