After an interesting visit to the well presented Tate Gallery we were gagging for a cup of tea and a piece of cake so visited the Tate's cafe.. What used to be a really good bistro now has tables and chairs straight out of a greasy spoon cafe. The day we vsiited the tea was "off" as they said there was no hot water. We opted for coffees but these were lukewarm and served in small cups. The scone (overpriced at £2.50) was rock hard and when the equally solid butter was applied, it shattered into many pieces. The pigeons flying in and out of the door and eating stray crumbs provided diversionary entertainment.

As I am a member of the Tate the Picasso exhibition was free, so we went twice. The rest of the gallery is free and well worth a visit. The Wayne Hemmingway Gallery was very different and should be experienced, personal music and sculpture is fun.

The gallery was showing a temporary exhibition of Picasso drawings and paintings during my visit which was superbly presented and imaginatively put into context by a great introduction. The rest of the gallery is given over to modern art, predominantly sculpture. As with all art, not all of it will be to your taste but the variety is good and there should be something for all tastes. The gallery is free although the Picasso exhibition cost £10. Worth every penny.

A museum of international flair with free entrance! It really offers a lot of modern art from several well known artists. Of course they do not show No1 exponats, but nobody can expect that, as those are in the other famous museums. However, it is nicely arrange, with every room in a different colour. It is also allowed to take pictures (no flash), and you can take some memories home.

Ok, I'm no 'Modern art' fan really.
anyway - I went in with a relatively open mind..
Ground Floor first... A 6min film of a schoolgirl drawing a picasso picture..Ok...
Next - a 12 min film of Liverpudlian schoolkids talking about a picasso picture...
This is art?
That was enough. I left.
skip this pretentious rubbish and enjoy the rest of Albert Dock!
Maritime Museum etc was excellent - the guide in the emigration area talking about how 9mil people left from liverpool to america was wonderful....
TATE or TAT?
