“Terrible service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013 via mobile

We recently attended for a colleagues birthday celebration. We had contacted the restaurant in advance as there was a group of 14 of us. We were asked to e-mail a pre-order which we did on the monday before our reservation on the saturday. Despite this it
was an hour and 10 minutes before our starters arrived with a further long delay before we received our main courses. The main courses were brought to the table despite the fact that our starter dishes had not been cleared away! The food was nice though nothing out of the ordinary. I'm sure there are better places to eat nearby that would provide far superior service.

“Stay downstairs”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

Lovely service let by less than average food and appalling wallpaper. A shame in such an iconic pub.

“U need a chain saw for the food!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

My husband took me here today for some Sunday lunch!! Don't get my wrong the place looks lovely on the outside..and I suppose it's nice on the inside but the place stank of pee downstairs! Poss from night before! There is a thing as bleach and air spray! Wondered why the windows were all open! Anyways we took our seats upstairs! I ordered turkey and husband ordered chicken! Waited about 10mins which was good as we were very hungry! I can honestly say it was disgusting! The roast potatoes were over done to the point they where rock hard! Awful! The vegetables were still raw! Turkey was very poor and not much to it! My husbands dinner at least was edible! You shouldn't have to saw at ur food and a Sunday dinner is defo not hard to put together! Think this place needs to think about their staff and chef as it's taking away from the actual place as there is nothing wrong with it! Will not be back!

“Appalling rip off. Duff decor. Trading on glory of Lovely Pub below”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

I ordered a chicken salad. 5 slivers of carrot. 1 large lettuce leaf, FOUR edamame beans and a few bit of lettuce with a breast of chicken bunged on top. Not a salad. When I complained I was offered chips (not so nice) but I actually had wanted a decent salad, not chips. My son had a special which was nasty fried bits of fish and chips, too much batter - rubbish basically.
Not even a nice place. The wallpaper and window dressing were like a cheap hairdressers.
The waitress was helpful. And the pub downstairs is the most lovely ever, but when we came out, some locals said they would never eat there as it was a pretentious rip off and recommended a few well priced restaurants nearby. No need to eat here, there are too many good restaurants nearby to waste time and money in this joint.

“Excellent food but terrible service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

I went for dinner at the Philharmonic Dining Hall on Thursday with two friends. We managed to arrive just after the theatre rush so had to wait for a table which wasn't a problem in itself but the staff member was very abrupt and didn't explain the situation properly at all.

When we did sit down we were impressed with the breadth of the menu and how reasonable the prices were. Ordering the food was fine but when the wine was ordered the waitress brought it over straight away and dumped it on the table. She didn't offer us a taste which was not professional.

The food did arrive quickly. The lamb pie was absolutely delicious, as was the sea bass. The pork was a little too salty but still very good.

We tried to order Eton Mess but were first told there were no strawberries and then no cream so had to have alternatives! Sticky toffee was a little dry but the other puddings were lovely. Generous portions.

By the end we were the only customers left but the waitress still took a long time to clear the plates and even longer to get us the bill and take payment!

Overall- great meal but I hope the waitress improves her customer service skills as she lets down a good pub.
