The Casbah Coffee Club is where the Beatles first performed – and where they performed regularly many times in their early days. The Casbah was the brainchild of Mona Best, who converted the basement of her home into Liverpool’s first music club. The house and music club still belong to her family.
Roag Best – Pete’s youngest brother, child of Mona Best and Neil Aspinall (head of Apple Records), gave us our tour. To say that Roag is passionate about the Casbah’s phenomenal history would be quite an understatement; he lives and breathes the Casbah. The tour was thoroughly entertaining and enlightening. I can’t imagine taking a tour of Beatles sites in Liverpool without seeing it.
