Owner description: The Holy Grail of The Beatles trail. The place where it truly all began for the greatest music phenomenon of the 20th century.
Reviewed June 7, 2013

The Casbah Coffee Club is where the Beatles first performed – and where they performed regularly many times in their early days. The Casbah was the brainchild of Mona Best, who converted the basement of her home into Liverpool’s first music club. The house and music club still belong to her family.

Roag Best – Pete’s youngest brother, child of Mona Best and Neil Aspinall (head of Apple Records), gave us our tour. To say that Roag is passionate about the Casbah’s phenomenal history would be quite an understatement; he lives and breathes the Casbah. The tour was thoroughly entertaining and enlightening. I can’t imagine taking a tour of Beatles sites in Liverpool without seeing it.

While sparing no loss of detail, thoroughly passionate, Roag is fired w/ enthusiasm and passion about his Mom, Mona Best and her responsibility in her's and his brother's (Pete) relationship w/ the Beatle's beginning.... The Casbah was rocked w/ old stories and new nostalgia that was locked away for years. If your a Beatle's Fan... Start your day here! It's a must!!!
I want a book on Mona Best too. I'll help write it! What an inspiration as well as the shoe that was kicked to get those four lads to stardom.

The tour, given by Roag Best, was a whole lot lof fun. He brings passion, enthusiasm and a great love of the history that is lesser known of the Beatles beginnings. I was really impressed by how he treated us as if he was giving the tour to a large group.....he spared no detail, didn't feel at all rushed; we were given lots of time to take as many photos as we pleased. I was glad it was so intimate; having a problem with small places, I would have had trouble being there with a lot of people. All in all, a splendid time indeed!

Our tour of the Casbah with Roag Best was the highlight of an awesome day of Beatle touring. Roag is so funny and entertaining and he is obviously passionate about the Casbah's Beatle past. If you love The Beatles you can't leave Liverpool without seeing this place. We loved it!

Most people think the Beatles started at the Cavern. Wrong. That was where they were discovered by Brian Epstein. The Beatles first paid gigs were at The Casbah Coffee Club, owned and run by Mona, Pete Best's mother. We had an up-close and personal tour of the club. Rogue (Pete Best's brother) made the story of his family's involvement with the Birth of The Beatles come alive. Want to see REAL history. Check it out!
